Continental bases their operations on people picking up open time and volunteering.. in february they let people off on VRF leave (no pay of course), now they're offering 150% for open time pickups..
I guess open time scums and people with lots of sick time are part of the CAL life here..

Well, really, if you are that concerned about someone showing up sick ( and I would be ), kindly ask that person to remove him/herself from the pairing. If they refuse, kindly call your chief pilot and remove yourself due to a safety of flight issue. If you don't get support, call your union, your have some ground to stand here. FAR's would technically make it illegal for someone to fly when their performance is affected by the illness. Sounds a little over the top I know, but it would end your problem.

Just flew with IRO that had the FLU and didnt want to call in sick! 2006 hired w/ 120 hrs sick time...

2007 hired... 25hrs sick time

1. Trade the IRO... Then call in sick!
2. 87+ hrs credit... Go back to express!

I am on 5th year and bid Reserve... My newhiire classmate 12yr's at express makes +2k more a month then me with 15days off vs my 12 days off!

CAL SUCKS
But you got to fly a "Big Boy Jet!"

and there is no reason that people at united who are 63.5 and have 1000 hours of sick time , dont bow out gracefull yand go out on medical as they ride west... who wouldnt want the best of both worlds-- sit at home, enjoy life- get paid, and still be there if anything happens compensatorily if we do get a JCBA--- even more selfish-- you cant take it with you like you took the unequal distribution b/c u were supposed to retire at 60.
again, pathetic and selfish

Really? A 5th year reserve on the 756 makes $7530/month. For a 12 yr XJT CA to make $9530/mo at $84.54/hr (preconcessionary rate, not sure if it snapped back) he has to credit 112.73 hrs a month, or 7+03 pay for every one of 16 work days to get 15 days off in a 31 day month. We had good work rules at Express, but not that good! Care to send any more BS our way?

Also, while I agree with you 100% that sick pilots need to call out and not contaminate the rest of us regardless of pay implications, exactly what should they trade their DH IRO trip for? Have you seen open time lately?

Sadly with all the Jr man, rolled days off and enhanced red flag going on crediting 112 wouldn't be that hard.

No the real problem at CAL is, and I quote.

"I'M JUST OVER 60, AND SCOPE RELIEF WOULDN'T TOUCH ME! I COULD USE THAT EXTRA BANG OF 5 YEARS WITH A NICE PAY INCREASE".

And yes before you ask he was an OPPORTUNIST.

That is the problem at CAL

This will change in March... PBS gave me a nice working block of 9days in a row... 3 Europe trips in 9 days... "yes i did set max work block 6days! DM5"

FUPM

Then get off the 757 and you will stop getting the constant beat-down. That fleet is a joke - 12-15 days off, constant backside of the clock flying, no Int'l o/r, $hitty per-diem. I laugh when I hear guys complaining, but then think the 737 is so below them.

It's all about quality of life and schedule - I'll take my 17-19 day-off 737 schedule any day. I also have 120 hours of sick time but have never been junior-manned and never have picked up open.
