A couple of questions...

I applied last year and still have the "on file" notation when I check on my status.

If and when the window opens, will I be able to update since it was last year's window when I applied?

Also (I know if I dug I might find this out) would more than one recommendation help? And I can't remember if they help get the interview or help after the interview.

I hear 60 pilots are in the pool. Is that a good number?

If UPS goes to a 3rd sort, I assume there will be a need for additional pilots to staff those flights. Any thoughts as to whether this 3rd sort is feasible?

Thanks.

No third sort. They would have to look for more help around Louisville with loaders, sorters, etc. More likely they could increase the 2nd day sort like FedEx did with the mail contract.

BTW;

Kenneth Black is quoted as saying that UPS will not hire any "DHL pilots" (although technically I do not work for DHL: I am employed by Astar Air Cargo) so my inquiries may unnecessary.

Any word as to whether or not Black sets and/or reflects accurate company policy regarding this issue with pilot recruiting?

My Bad: It's Norman Black a "UPS Spokesman"

Who's he?

A story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by a Rachel Tobin Ramos published on 07-10-08:

<<<And what is bad news for Wilmington, Ohio, could be a windfall for others. The DHL contract could mean UPS will hire more staff at World port, Pus's Louisville, Ky., air hub.
UPS spokesman Norman Black says, however, that UPS has no plans to hire DHL pilots who lose their jobs. He also said UPS wouldn't use the Wilmington hub, which is only 150 miles from Louisville. He doesn't believe there are "antitrust implications whatsoever.">>>

Is it possible that someone from the IPA can clarify this. Does Mr. Black mean that UPS won't bring pilots over in the deal? Or does he mean they won't hire pilots that worked DHL freight out right?

TIA, FAJ

UPS has told the IPA that there will be NO preferential hiring/interview program for Astar/ABX pilots. UPS' existing hiring pool is deep enough to cover the handful of pilots that will be hired as the result of getting the DHL flying (20 new pilots). Wish I had better news for you but it looks like no off the street hiring for UPS.

BrowntotheNose, aka "Rhoid".

You are not a UPS pilot. Your "information" is gleaned from other boards.

You are just a troll.

Really? Who did you talk to? and when? I called one of my friends over there just two days ago and was told that the company hasn't said anything about preferential interviews, in other words neither a yes nor a no. Also, they still have no idea how many, if any, will be hired as the contract hasn't been signed by the two parties yet.

Astar, Abx folks plz hang in there, lots of IPA'ers are trying to talk the company into letting y'all interview first.

By the way, no one seems to know N. Black here, at least on the airline side. I'm sure what he said was just a 'standard' briefing response, in other words "we don't know yet..."

Thanks AV80R. Folks like you, friends that have called, and people on this and other boards that I don't even know that PM are GREATLY appreciated.

R&W swears that BTTB is this boards biggest pain in the A$$, RHOID:smash: . I'm beginning to think is spot on.
