This just in from the AWA MEC Chairman. Good luck to all Indy pilots and their families on this dark day....

MEC Alert – January 3, 2006
From: JR Baker, MEC Chairman
To: All AWA Pilots

As you likely know by now, FLYi, Inc, announced that Independence Air will stop
flying this Thursday evening, January 5, due to “continued financial challenges”
facing the company.

With the airline ceasing operations, there will likely be crews who are
stranded, so I’m asking for your help in getting them home.

I spoke with Jeff McClelland, US Airways EVP and Chief Administration Officer,
about opening our doors to help when news of Independence Air discontinuing
operations broke. He agreed, and as of right now, we are the first airline that
has stepped up to the plate in helping our fellow pilots in their time of need.

If you run across an Independence Air pilot who is trying to get home once their
company shuts down and space allows, please welcome him or her on board. Let me
know if you have any questions or encounter any difficulties helping these
crewmembers get home.

All,

As a result of the Independence shutdown the company has agreed to extend OMC benefits to these pilots through 1/9/06. While the emotions and opinions on the UAL and Flyi relationship have been strong. I would like to ask everyone to extend the courtesy of helping these pilots get home. Again irregardless of the path's Flyi took these are fellow ALPA pilots that are suffering the loss of their company and job.

This is an opportunity for the United pilots to showcase the professionalism that we all possess. I personaly would like to thank those that assist in returning these pilots to their homes.

ATA is allowing Independence Air pilots cabin jump seat authority until January 12th according to the Chief Pilot's office. A company NOTAM is being sent with all flight paperwork to our crews so if anyone has trouble with an agent, ask to speak to one of the pilots on the flight.

Good luck to the Indy pilots.

JetBlue is offering the "jumpseat" to any pilots and F/A's thru Feb 5th. Just show up with an old pay stub (since no id's) and your FAA Cert. We can put you in a Cabin Seat. Good luck to all and visit B6 at the Washington Job Fair.

Good luck to all

MEMO OPS-06-003
Effective: January 4, 2005
To: All Flight Crews
From: Dirk Melchior, Manager Flight Standards
Re: Independence Air Jumpseating

On Thursday January 5, 2006, Independence Air will cease operations.

As a courtesy to their pilot group, Chautauqua Airlines will allow Independence Air pilots to jumpseat on our flights until Sunday evening January 8, 2006.

The crewmember requesting to jumpseat must show an Independence Air Identification.

If more than one eligible person request to jumpseat, Independence Air pilots will have the lowest priority.

Sorry....shoud have said from the JetBlue chief pilots office:

Fellow JetBlue Pilots,

It is difficult to think about the Independence Air shutdown without getting a lump in your throat, understanding the devastation occurring in the lives of so many.

Please know that we will do our best to reach out to the people of Independence.

From a Flight Ops Standpoint, we will honor Independence Air Jumpseat requests until Febriary 5th (all individual will occupy seats in the cabin). This is extended for both Pilots and Flight Attendants. The individuals must show a FLYi pay stub from 2005 (see attachment) at the ticket counter along with their airman certificate for pilots and Flight Attendant Certificate for FA’s.

Dean Melonas and Verna Kay will also be scheduling a job fair at Dulles this month. Stand by for details.

Our hearts go out to the individuals and families affected by this shutdown and ask that you extend them every courtesy.

Copied from a memo we receive today.

Jumpseat Access for FlyI/Independence Air Pilots
04-JAN-2006FlyI/Independence Air will cease operations Thursday January 5th. Per the Director of Operations, Comair will continue to extend jumpseat access to pilots of Independence Air as long as we can do so within the limits of Federal Aviation Regulations.

AirTran flight crews have been notified through the CPO that we can carry Fly-I pilots through 1/31/06.

Of course, a few of our ATL gate agents may not have gotten the word, so, if necessary, grab a pilot to explain . . . we speak gate agent . . .

From our Jumpseat Committee:

"
If you do not already know Independance Air is ceasing opertion today. It has been discussed with management to allow the pilots to jumpseat from Jan 5th-15th, as long as they have proper identification. In time of need it is the honorable thing to do for our fellow pilots. Here are the procedures:

• Employee travel - Frontier will also offer free space available travel to any Independence Air crewmembers and/or employees who are stranded away from their home base. This special arrangement is only available for a period of 10 days expiring on January 15, 2006. Independence Air employees must present a valid Independence Air identification at the ticket counter and should be listed using space available priority code SA6P. We will not supply travel for Independence Air buddy pass travelers. "

Good luck in these trying times!

thank you

F9 Driver,

Thank you all for your support during this transition time for most of us. We appreciate your company helping us out. The only question I have from your post is do I need my Independence badge? Most or all of us were required to turn them in (or have $ deducted from our final check). Maybe you could pass this along to whomever. Thanks again!

We at Midwest also got a letter permitting us to extend the jumpseat privileges to all flyI pilots up to 01/15.

Best of luck guys

QRC - check your pm's. To the FLYI folks. Come talk to us. I'm sure we can verify your employment to our satisfaction. Shouldn't be too hard to tell. You're in the back of the plane & the Feds can't tell us who we can/can't carry there with/without your badge.

Good luck!

Same for CAL jumpseat. Please also get the help of a pilot if you encounter any gate agent difficulties. Best of luck to you all and please send CAL an application.
