Okay, I'm in the process of applying for an internship with Southwest. I'd like to know some things about SWA that I haven't been able to find online. I hope some folks could help me out with these questions.

1. What series of 737s does SWA fly? I'm familiar with -200, what other series does SWA fly?

2. Where are the pilot domiciles, other than DAL?

3. Who is the overall chief pilot?

Thanks!

here we go

1. 737-200, 737-300, 737-500, 737-700 for now... future options may be converted to -800 or -900 or -xxx
2. OAK PHX DAL HOU BWI MCO MDW
3. Senior Chief Pilot: Sonny Childers (as of July 2002) They may have a new one. Newhires?

I had my phone interview this morning for my internship. I'll know in a week-and-a-half whether I make it to the in-person interview.

More questions:

What functions (dispatch, scheduling, etc.) come under the umbrella of the Flight Operations department at Southwest?

What other departments are there besides Flight Operations?

Who is the head of Flight Operations for Southwest?

Thanks! I hope to get an in-person interview in Dallas and come much better armed with information. Thanks again to everybody!

More Information

My best advice for buy is that you buy three different books.

1. A Passage to Southwest

2. Nuts

3. The Southwest Airlines Way

Book#3 will give you a lot of insight to your question. If you are looking to intern at Southwest Book#3 is a must. While I don't work at Southwest I spoke to a VP about the book and based on her opinion and review of the book as well as my impression ( I read the book), I highly recommend that you buy it.

Good Luck!

I've got "Nuts" and it was a good read. I'll pick up the other two as soon as I can. I have plenty of other books to read on a daily basis, though.

Could anybody fill me in on the particulars of the Flight Operations department?

Dispatch, Pilot Scheduling, & Pilot Training all fall under the umbrella of Flight Ops at SWA. Greg Crum is the VP of Flight Operations.
