Well, I'd hate to have it go to the courts but like you said. It seems as though my best interests are not in their minds. Anyone know a good lawyer? While we're on the subject, anyone taking applications? LOL

You signed a contract stating that you would be typed at the first recurrent. A deal is a deal, the new CP can not legally come in and change it to suit his wishes. You signed it in good faith believing you would be typed. I would bring this to his attention (very delicately). If it falls on deaf ears, bail asap. They can not enforce a training contract on you that had provisions changed during the course of the term of the contract. Any lawyer worth a dam will be able to help you out of it if they tried to collect when you leave. A simple phone call from a lawyer would suffice I am sure. Best wishes and best of luck!

You make an excellent point. The best one yet. If the pilotin question did sign a contract saying he would get typed at the 1st recurrent, then he has it coming to him. I'd explain to the CP that the deal was made before he came in and that this is something HR needs to get involved with. At that point, no contract should be required, as the type training is covered in the previous agreement which you have lived up to.
Also, don't think the CP is looking out for the company. He might be, but 9 times out of 10, the powers that be have no idea of what's going on at the airport. Most of them don't.

I once worked for a family and the CP wanted me to sign a contract for recurrent (I was typed in nothing yet). The owner wanted me to stay for 2 years. The owner assumed I was getting typed, so when I was told I had to sign a 2 year contract and a recurrent was all that was going to be offered for a plane I had no experience in, I stopped by the owner's office the next morning with my resignation letter. Letter was polite and gave no details as to why I was quitting after 3 weeks. As I was walking back to my car, the secretary gave the owner my letter and my phone rang as I was getting in my car. I was asked to come back upstairs and explain what was going on. As I was going back upstairs the owner had called the CP and got the story. He started to give some story about young new pilots thinking they have it all coming to them, and I was just being unreasonable. The owner cut him off, and by the time I got back upstairs, I could hear expletives being screamed from 100 feet down the hall lighting up the CP like a Xmas tree. Needless to say, 2 weeks later I was in Initial Type School and put in charge of my own training.

My point is to make sure the folks outside the department know what is going on before you quit. I bet they don't.

These contracts are nothing but an excuse for poor management. If the place was operated professionally, they wouldn't exist period. Don't waste your time.

I have to say, run away. That price will cover 2 type ratings, you don't even get. It is tough getting a break, but hold out, meet everyone you can, network, it is mostly who, not what you know.
