I need an internal recommendation at FLEXJET

And my father is 77. I'm an old-fart-fourth-career pilot.

I feel like we're missing the story here. It's not about FlexJet or NetJets. It's about a guy who's looking on the Internet for a personal internal recommendation. It's a little vague, but my post above was a copy and paste from another forum. Word for word this guy is plastering the web with pleas for someone to vouch for him and get him in the door.

Why can't he just network like the rest of us? Remember a year or so ago someone was offering a personal recommendation on these boards. It was soon discovered that his company was offering cash for referrals.

People need to stop and think. A PERSONNAL RECOMMENDATION is just that...personal. If you lose sight of that then the real personal recommendation means nothing!

There's my two cents.

Anybody who would vouch for another not based on personal history but a personal check is truly sleazy. As a defense, I guess this person thought they could help lessen the Flex first/second year pay sting.

I was at an interview with chief pilot types and such. as the meeting was winding up I was asked if I had anything for them. I quickly pulled out my.......
( get out of the gutter) recommendation letters and handed them to the chief pilot. he said "keep em I'm sure they all say something good about you".



I got the job. but that is when I realized they don't care what they say.
they just might want to know who you know.

That's a different situation. You already had the interview and I'm sure they had already decided to hire you when you pulled them out. I'd probably say the same thing.

The value of a recomendation is to decide who to interview, not who to hire. I've always told people I've recommended that, "I may be able to help you get the interview, but you have to get the job."

Hey EDAIRPORT, there is some truth to ORD's comments. I have flown and met ALOT of new F/O's that either never got the call from NJ or didn't pass the interview.

Where do you get that fact from ORD?

hiya Ed. I guess I can't back that up with any hard numbers from a scientific study, but in my rather large new hire class, 80% of us were NJ rejects (myself included), and 1 of the 2 who were not left Flex for NJ after one year. I know that most of the people that came over from my previous employer were NJ rejects, and from speaking with other FOs on the road, most applied at NJ first. Not all got an interview, but most at least applied there.

but that makes sense doesn't it? I mean, if you compare the two companies on paper trying to decide who to work for, who in their right mind would not go to NJ? more pay for less work, better benefits, better QOL. it is a no brainer if you are looking for work. Right?

now, with that said, I do think that we have a better product and better service, but I didn't know that, nor did it matter, when I was trying to decide where to apply
