For the money, I think the David Clark H-10-13.4 is the best headset. I have the active noise cancellation version of that headset and I wish I would've just got the H-10-13.4.

agreed, i use the 13.4 works well and is pretty comfortable. not bad for $300

OK here's my two cents.

The best, most comfortable, QUIETEST headset out there is the Telex Stratus 50D, hands down. I used it from piston singles/twins up through two different turboprops over a period of 4 years. It may be overkill for an RJ, but I never flew one so I don't know how loud those cockpits are.

It runs off 4 AA batteries, or plugs into a ciragette lighter in the plane. Attenuation is the same regardless of power source.

Telex customer service is second to none. I had to send it in twice for ANR problems (I don't know the technical terms for what was wrong) and it was fixed for free both times, no questions asked.

I have tested it side by side, one right after another with the Bose X in a Cirrus SR22 and the Telex is quieter. Three of us in the plane verified that. Price is about 750 bucks, which is notably cheaper than the Bose too.

No I am not a Telex salesman. Just some guy who has had a good experience with a product. It's not cheap, but if you plan on flying for a long time then fork out the money and you will be glad you did.

The May issue of Flight Training magazine did a write up about the in's and out's of buying a headset. Check it out, some great advice.

I got my Lightspeed 15 for 300. Kinda bulky but if thats what you start with you wont notice. Its very comfortable and the ANR is BUTTAH!

I love letting someone use it who doesnt know how to turn the ANR on...fly for a little bit then I have them turn it on. "...WOW....just WOW...." is usually the response.

Roomate has the DC 13xx, and I'll take my somewhat bulky ANR any day. They are both the same price at 300.

I've got a Lightspeed 30-3G and love it. Light and very quiet. The only issue I have with it is in our Sundowner, while wearing sunglasses and at high power settings, there are 'pops' every couple of seconds. I'm going to raise this issue with Lightspeed because I'm actually on my third headset because of that very reason. The first two did it very bad right out of the box, this one didn't do it for a long time but now it is. I'm thinking it might be heat because my headset sits in my (black) truck all morning before I go flying.
