I don't ever have to tell people at a party that I am a pilot...they can tell by my uniform! ;)

how did that joke go.....

how do you know if theres a pilot at a party?
he will tell you!

seriously i would just tell people that "hey, if you get paid to fly then you're a commercial pilot. if i teach flyin' then im a commercial pilot. airline pilots are commercial pilots too'

they seem to understand that. its simple. not too much effort to say it. but guaranteed it went over their head.

I personally like the EMB-170 pilots using the US Air call sign. That's about like a Pinnacle or Mesaba pilot calling their flight Northwest because there happens to be some furloughed guys flying it and NW owns the plane.

While a Pinnacle or Mesaba pilot would be just plain dorky as hell to do that, the MDA guys have to use "USAir" because they are on the US Airways certificate.

When anyone asks me what I do for a living, I just tell them
I work at the airport, and just leave it at that. Got tired of explaining to everyone all this code share nonsense a long time ago, although it was kinda fun watching their eyes glaze over during the discussion:D

I had a Mid Alantic Guy jumpseat last week, he introduced himself as working for Mid Alantic "the new and improved US Air." Thought that was funny since they are still screwed.

I specialize in high speed aluminum tubing if asked.

I did not know that Mid Atlantic is on the same certificate as US Air.

I would have never guessed that a single airline could hold two certificates, operate as one airline, as well as two seperate airlines, use different senority lists, but keep a "master" list for recalls, file a flight plan as US Air, operate the flight with MDA crews, call themselves "US Airways Express" to the public/shareholders/pax/CREDITORS, but never classify themselves as "US Air Express" to any other pilot group ever, and use a US Air call sign.

Chock that one up to our lovely MEC. Alter ego airline fully sanctioned by ALPA.

And yes it is one certificate. Officially called the "Embraer Division" of USAirways. Fancy way of saying......"Lube up folks!!"

Back to the black out on the id. It is a blue box that has the MidAtlantic Airways name in it. From a distance it does look black.
