Laughing my a$$ off when I heard this phrase. And it's not the first time. A couple of years ago I ran into a guy who was "furloughed from USAir." I get talking to him and find out he was furloughed from a regional that feeds USAir.

The irony in this industry is never ending. We hire and train guys who are supposed to have the demeanor and confidence to work in a demanding job. Yet they lack the self esteem to say they work for a regional?

I saw the same thing many times.

Give 'em a few weeks, and that will turn into "the contract carriers are stealing my flying".

Never fails. ;)

I heard a rumor (probably on these boards :D ) that the MDA guys were blacking out the "express" on their ID's

I can verify that I have also heard the same rumor from some of my former ALG coworkers. It's a shame that the such a title (or stigma) can mean so much to some people. It's also a shame that such an airplane even has express painted on the side.

What? Are you Yogi Berra? What an awesome quote!

"Everyone line up in a circle- tallest to shortest by age!"

:D

Yeah, like trying to tell people not in the airline industry you work for Piedmont. They either say "who?" or "I thought they were out of buisness". People don't really care. Same as if you told them you work for Chitaqua, they will either give you a blank look or say "bless you" thinking you have sneezed.

Over the past week i have been asked how I feel about taking a pay cut. How I feel about my company being bankrupt. I was asked about when I was going to vote for concessions. And these come from people that i have already explained the "express" difference to in the past!!!!!

I get so tired of trying to explain what a regional is, and why I can't just go work at AA, FedEx or Continental with 2000TT. The general public has no idea about aviation, but lots of opinions.

"Oh, you teach people how to fly? "How nice. "Do you want to be a commercial pilot?".

....!!!!!!!

How about this one - hello I'm the first offficer, yeah but your not the pilot. holy crap

I have an Aunt, every time she visits she asks me, "So, when are you going to become a commercial pilot?". The first time I explained to her what Part 135 is. The next time I see her she asks the same exact question. Now everytime she asks, I keep it simple - I reply "Oh, I don't know... hopefully some day"

I share your pain...

"When are you going to fly the REAL planes???"

"when are you going to become a REAL pilot???"

WTF. I really have lost my temper on a couple of occasions...

The general public knows this:
There are "corporate" pilots, "commercial" pilots and "fighter" pilots.
That's it.

Dude, you forgot an important category of pilot...

The public also knows about "unemployed pilots." :>

Dan

No kidding.... And have you ever noticed that John Q Public thinks there are only 2 types of airplanes out there? Piper Cubs and Boeing 747's with nothing in between!!! Oh,well ....it's a living, I guess

Most would say, oh this is a cool airplane while boarding (if they were to say anything what-so-ever...).

When they board the RJ you get to hear, oh isn't this a cute airplane (Mostly from our female pax. The guys just duck their heads and realize their heads, knees and legs are in for quite the torture).

The best one I've heard was:
-Are you the pilot?
-I'm the First Officer.
-Oh, I didn't know they had a cabin crew of two on airplanes this small?

Gotta love the general public!

What do you expect from adjustable CG?

I was just hired at AE and my buddy says, "Now that you've made it 'big time,' just remember us little people."

I said, "I AM the little people!"

Ahhhh..... humility... how refreshing to see that on this web:) . Congratulations "big time". Hope the new job is everything you hoped for!
