The dead body of a man has been found in the toilet of a Russian passenger jet that had arrived in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg from Germany, the Novy Region information agency reported on Monday.
The agency cited a source in the Sverdlovsk Regional prosecutor’s office as saying that the fact of suicide was discovered in the Koltsovo airport by flight attendants. One of the passengers locked himself inside the toilet while the plane was in the air and remained there after landing.
At first the flight attendants knocked on the closed door, but as the passenger did not react, they decided to break open the door. It turned out that the man had hanged himself.
The man was a former Russian citizen who had emigrated to Germany some time ago. Documents found on him indicated that he had been traveling to Russia on business. Investigators have not offered any official version for the incident, but according to unofficial information, the man may have been driven by personal motives — his wife had apparently left him some time before his last flight.
The materials of the case will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office on August 31. The airport administration has refused to comment on the incident.
