It was 10:30pm (EST) and I was falling asleep when I should have been up studying for an ATC test coming up (I mention the fact that it was an ATC test so Generaltso doesn’t get all wound up about the thread not being aviation related.:D ) So I decided to turn to a pot of coffee for a little boost of energy/alertness. The problem was/is that I haven't had coffee in a while and when I go a couple of weeks without having any, I am especially sensitive to the stimulating effects of it (particularly if I drink it after 5:00pm.) Not only did I drink any old coffee, it was some Cafe Brit (sp) from Costa Rica. I am now convinced that the Costa Ricans blend peyote in there coffee.:D So now I got a lot more then a little energy I feel like I just ate a few hits of acid and now am coming down. I probably should have thought about what would happen before I drank all that coffee. So now I am combining another drug, THIS BOARD, with the coffee. Since it can act like a stimulate or sedative, I am using it as a sedative to try and counteract the coffee, by reading some of Kid Charlemagne's posts. Just kidding Kid. Anyways I'll be up late tonight!

JUST SAY NO TO COFFEE!!!!:D :D :D

coffee

Yeah, I tried to cut back, but I'm getting addicted again. The convienence store on the way to the airport has this new flavor of cappucino called "Sara Lee cinimon roll" ...... mmmmmm..........sara lee cinnomon roll..........

uh anyhoo it's good stuff, considering its from a gas station.

Also if you don't want to brew a whole pot you can get the folgers coffee singles, which are basically tea bags that make one cup.

no no no no no...coffee is your friend! it's the only way I get through the week (though I also get a little help from XTZ tea combined with Red Bull). perhaps you just need to drink more coffee, the effects will become less noticeable over time. ;)

Cafe Britt

This is my personal favorite coffee in the world. The dark roast will rock your world. It has to do with the nutrient content in the soil (due to the volcanoes) and the specific altitude they grow the beans at. Costa Rica is the shiz!

Obviously you surf. Ever surf down in Costa? Hermosa?

And yes the Cafe Britt is also my favorite. I have like 15 bags of the stuff lying around my apartment. I used to drink it a lot but in the past few months I have been trying to keep a healthy diet. So I cut out the caffeine as much as possible. The only caffeine I was getting was in the form of green tea. So last night I was going nuts after 16oz of some Cafe Brit. I felt like Homer Simpson in that episode where he ate the psychedelic insanity pepper. Well, maybe not that bad, but I was definitely cranked up! :D :D

My father used to sit in front of the morning news, expressing his outrage at the number of addicts (drugs, alcohol, etc.) in this country. Meanwhile, he's got a mug of black coffee in each hand... :D

I'm hooked too, downing bout 4/day.

What are the adverse FX of coffee on the body?

Ah, whenever you're in miami try out a "Colada" after lunch (not piña colada), man that lil thing will electrocute you!!!!!!!
Ay Caramba!

Not that you've ever done acid, right? ;)

From: "Caffeine Blues" By Stephen Cherniske (paraphrased)
A 12 ounce cup of my "nectar of life" has about 200mg of caffeine.
300-600mg/day: Doubled risk for ulcers & fibrocystic disease.
600-900mg/day: Coffee Achiever (Addiction). Mood & energy/fatigue levels are severely affected. Increased risk of heart attack & gastrointestinal disease.

Possible effects (any amount):
energy swings, periods of fatigue during the day, mood swings or periods of depression during the day, headaches, gastrointestinal distress, cramping, diarrhea, dependence on caffeine to have a "movement," tension or stiffness in the neck-shoulders-jaw-hands-legs-or stomach, PMS, insomnia, clenching the jaw or grinding teeth during sleep, anxiety, irritability-including inappropriate "fits" of anger, involuntary movement in the leg (restless leg syndrome), irregular or rapid heartbeat, light-headedness/dizziness, wake up feeling tired, generalized pain (back-stomach-muscle aches), high blood pressure, ulcers, anemia, shortness of breath, difficulty concentrating or memory loss, ringing in the ears, coldness in the extremities-especially fingertips, hand tremor.

...but it's so tasty

At which retailer would one find this fantastic "Cafe Britt"? After hearing about FlyBuddy's "religious":D experience, it seems worth of a sampling...

I don't ever recall seeing it in any store (at least here in America.) You can get it online here

Or of course you could always pick up a bag down in Costa. Makes for a good reason to go there!

After flying freight for a year and a half, I'm convinced that if it wasn't for coffee (lovely elixir that it is) half the freight flights in the world would in large smoking holes in the ground.

Heck, in school we used to brew up espresso double shots with Crank2O - the stuff was hell on your stomach and gave you a wicked case of the shakes / heart rate, but it got the job done and me through many an all-nighter.

Doesn't sound like you need that though :)

Yup, Hermosa rocks! I have traveled up and down both coasts surfing on a couple of month long trips.

As for Cafe Britt, they were trying to establish a presence in the states, not sure how it is coming along now though. You used to be able to find it at Costco, otherwise buy online and they will ship it to you no problem.

Hhmm, Coffee. I once read that eating an apple in the morning will actually wake you up more than a cup of joe, but adverse effects and all I love the black stuff.
