I believe that the "What do you believe" thread has been deleted.

This was the most viewed and most posted thread ever on flightinfo, at least of those I have seen, and it shed a little light on the many underpaid and overworked lives of pilots.

Antimatter, I spent an hour writing a reply to your last post. What a shame all that work is lost, along with the reference that others could have used to find answers.

Maybe the terrorists have won in America...

Relax, Timebuilder. I deleted it myself after I read this:
Same sh!t different day with Typhoon...asking what peoples religions are and belief in God on an AVIATION MESSAGE BOARD. You have something that people come here to obtain...knowledge about aviation. But I have to sift through all your off-topic posts to get to it. Generaltso
Folks are going to bring up political and religious issues—especially those who feel the need to proselytize their political or religious viewpoint as the one true way...ignore them. A whole bunch of thread with no replies speaks volumes and is the most effective way of stopping them. Midlifeflyer
So Typhoon tends to be a little attention getter. Let him be. Cessna_driver2
Cessna_driver2 was nice about it, but I don't want to be seen as an attention-getter. And when it comes down to it, as much of a hemorrhoid as Generaltso is, he's right. So I nuked almost all of my off-topic stuff.

I left the Beer and Sex, though. People seem to be into that!

(I got a nice PM from Mar...he pointed out that apparently religion hacks people off, but beer and sex are okay!)

I sent you a PM before I read this. I am disappointed that a couple of board memebers who were not being harmed in any way were the basis of this decision.

If pilots can be asked about beer and sex, then why not a fair exchange of ideas on this more important topic? This sounds like the logic used in public school. We can teach that all beliefs are equivalent, even when they are not. We can teach which sex position is most pleasurable to twelve year olds, yet we are surprised when they become pregnant. One woman complains about a moring prayer in school, so no one is allowed to do so.

So General Tso gets hacked off that he has to bypass a single thread, ONE THREAD mind you, and this is too much trouble for him?

Well to be fair, we're talking about a lot more than one thread. In fact, I scrolled through the first three pages of the General forum and found fifteen threads that had nothing to do with aviation. (Four were mine.)

This is, indeed, an aviation forum. I guess all that other stuff belongs under YGBSM...

What a shame! This just like going to the video store. Nobody is forcing you into the XXX section, guys. If you don't like the topic, don't open the thread. Typhoon, we need more guys like you on this board. Don't listen to the mindless minority.

SK:cool:

Not to start another never ending debate on the subject but I have an interesting story that kinda sums up an agnostics (or any unbelievers) mentality.

I just took an exam in one of my classes on Tues. Today (Wed) I got an email (and so did everyone in the class) that basically said the teacher was disappointed with the grades. The class average was a 65%. I got a 90%. Not because I am smarter then the rest of the class but because when he said you need to read the book I took him literal. The general consensus in the class was he would just ask questions off the study guide he gave. Well he did but he also asked questions from the book. They didn't think he would really let them all fail. I guess they were wrong about what they believed. What they believed didn't change the reality of what the test was. Instead of reading the book I think they were off at the lake trying to find inspiration or somethin.:D

My point is that for those who don't want to read the book of life it still doesn't change the questions on the test we will all take someday.

BTW--It sucks you deleted the thread/poll Typhoon. Who cares what they think. My personal opinion is you didn't want anyone to see the ridiculous claims some of the self-proclaiming "knowledgeable" members of this forum made.

I just read this tidbit on snopes.com. It seems that this "edgy" fragrance company is selling its product to our next generation of world leaders (read: youth). Here is a direct link to their website.

It's a dam,n shame that this product and its advertising are allowed into society without a whimper, but the Ten Commandments suffer the scorn of an increasingly immoral society.

Timebuilder, on my next trip, I'm going to pull the Gideon's out of the drawer. Do you have any suggested readings for someone who's a little rusty on verse.

I didn't mean for you to blow everything off. I truely enjoy off topic threads. That's what general bored is for.

I just get tired of people arguing over stupid stuff. That's why I left some other pilot boards. And slamming each other cuz they went to ERU or whatever and think they are better than everyone else.

I'll shut up now. Sorry Typhoon.

I'm glad I stayed up late to read up to page 14 of the 'what i believe thread'

I think that some of the most interesting discussions lately have been then non-aviation ones.

my favorites this week are/were

what do you believe
the Wal-Mart debate
the USA today discussion.

Oh well. The y'all in south Florida is still alive, and probably has some good info in it.

I know that was for Timebuilder but may I add a comment?

The Gideon's is great and all but it is way old school (like “thouth shallest” stuff.) I recommend getting a new King James Version or the New Living Version. I have a really small NKJV that can fit into my back pocket like a wallet. If you want, PM me and I would be happy to send you ether a NKJV or a NLT (new living) for free. Or you can always pick one up at a Christian bookstore. If you decide to stick with reading the Giddy that is cool too. I recommend the book of John if you want to understand Jesus. The book of Romans if you want to understand our redemption and how we are no longer under the law. The book of James if you want to understand why it is important to have faith that is expressed in good works (such as serving others.) The book of Revelation if you want to see into the future. The book of Hebrews to understand what true faith is. First and Second Kings make for some excellent bedtime reading. And wisdom is found in the Psalms, Proverbs, and book of Ecclesiastics. Of course they are all great. But those were some of my particular favorites. OHH and can't forget Isaiah if you want to see what a true man of God looks like.

I'm looking for a sign from above!

Perhaps it's time the One, with the Supreme Authority, makes it known to us, the simple users of His World, how He would like us to use it.

Of course I'm speaking of the Webmaster or one of his dutiful Moderators.

After all, there seems to be much speculation and varied interpretation as to what we should be doing here.... :D

Peace!

No! Don't shut up, and don't be sorry. You were right! I freely admit it. My only excuse is that I'm not scheduled to fly this week, and this is the first time that my wife's been out-of-town with the kids and left me here...so I'm bored out of my skull!

I saw the raging thread about the Holy Skywriter in Florida, and it got me wondering just how many of us pilots are Bible-thumpers versus heathen infidels. So I posted the poll. If I'd had it in my power, it would have been merely a poll with no discussion.

What I got was twelve pages! I really, honestly didn't expect that.

As for Wal-Mart, I was just shocked to see ANOTHER one going up a couple miles from here...so I needed to vent.

I can't believe you deleted those threads - they were the only place I could go on this board and not have it turn into a Delta / Comair screaming match or a bobbysamd vendetta against PFT. OK, what can we recycle today....

fLYbUDDY,

Thanks. That's exactly the type of rundown I wanted. Others may chime in also. I just targeted timebuilder since I knew he would know. I have a "New International Version" that was given as a gift several years ago and reads very easy. I have barely cracked the spine on it, but it's not something I want to take on the road for fear of damage or loss. I'll drop by the bookstore for a smaller KJ version that I can carry with me. Thanks for the offer, though.

There is so much. Let' see.

Our saving is by His grace, not by what we do (repeating a prayer over and over and over, making hand gestures, wearing special clothes or hats, attending church on a special holiday, NONE of this is a part of being saved)

Ephesians Chapter 2, verses 8 and 9 written as Eph 2:8-9 or
Ephesians 2:8-9

How we are saved John, 3:16

Is the Bible the word of God? Second Timothy, 3:16 and 17

Who is a sinner? Romans 3:23

Christ died for us Romans 5:8

The wages of sin Romans 6:23

Confess with your mouth Romans 10: 9-13

I am not ashamed... Romans 1:16-17

You must be born again John 3:1-8

I spent a year reading the entire Bible, a little at a time. Most Bible churches have a guide that can break it down into five or ten minute chuncks.

You may wish to read the Book of Matthew, the first Gospel account of the New Testament, and ACTS, the things the apostles did after the resurrection. Most of the rest of the books are letters that were written to believers in specific towns. Those who lived in Ephesus were called Ephesians, so the book of Ephesians is the letter that was written to them under the guidance of the holy spirit.

The last book of the Bible is Revelation, where we learn the future and the role of satan.

The rapature, or "catching" or snatching up" of the believers before the tribulation is explained in First Thessalonians.

1Thes 4:16-17: (16) “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. (17) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” (NKJ)

There is some fun fiction written that is not scriptural by authors like Tim LaHaye, the "Left Behind" series, that gives interesting specualtion to what the Bible says and does not say.

That should be more than enough to get you started.

Good Luck.

Sondervans NIV is a popular translation, but I think the New King James Version is better, with the "Thy's and Thous's replaced by words we use today. Remember, God doesn't speak a particular language, although He can, He uses people who do speak using languages for His work.

I thought that the Gideons had started using NKJV for their new placements, but I'm not certain.

I want to hear God speak Jive. :D

Well, if you have the jive translation website stored in favorites, you could try plugging that description of the rapture in and see what comes out.

I'll bet its a hoot!
