Had this problem in 1997 flying for Grand Aire and flying UPS cargo. The UPS pilots decide to help the ground personel in their fight with management and joined the teamsters in the strike. During those 4 days they basically told us that we would be considered scabs if we taxied over to their ramp. Now the correct definition of a scab is someone that crosses the picket line to fly the Aircrafts and routes of the pilots on strike. ie.... EAL, CAL etc...... we were doing the same work that we were always doing, but I for some reason got really sick during those four days and couldn't be 4 feet away from a bathroom. ;) And mind you Grand Aire was unionized at that time and we were teamsters, and they (teamsters) OK'd us to fly. Go figure. It all comes down to what kind of person you are. I know of a few of guys that taxied over there........ ones at spirit the others are at Airtran. Good luck... hope that helps

I too remember the UPS strike. I was flying for a FedEx contractor flying 208's. The company had a few UPS runs and I remember those pilots were getting a lot of crap for flying their runs. The funny part was we were not union. The company we worked for would have fired them on the spot for not flying and the teamsters had nothing to offer them if they didn't fly and were fired. So they really put those guys in a bind. I even had one friend who was called at home and warned he would be blacklisted. I think he flew a metro for superior air frieght.
