Just throwing this out there, if anyone is going to Higher Power starting on the 31st of May, drop me a line. Hope all goes well, anyone that has attended there please drop me a line if you have some advice (good preferrably). Thanks for all the good info I have gotten so far...

Graduated there in mid-Feb. The staff is awesome, the systems study (week 1) is chalk full,... but not too bad, and week two in the SIM I found pretty darn challenging. Study the SIM guide before you ever go to the SIM and you'll be way ahead. Be sure to work on pre-flight flows in the cockpit too,... will make life much easier.

Bottom line, study the materials you get ahead of time and your time there will be much easier.

We stayed at the Amerisuites right by HPA,... walking distance, and highly recommended. Class sizes seem to be around 20 people still.

Dress Code HPA

What is the dress code down there. I see Business Casual and a suit on the recommendations. What is the norm there...

Thats about right. Nice shirt and kahkis are the norm. Suits are optional for your Oral and Checkride but if you forgo the suit, at least wear a nice shirt with tie with slacks. Thats what I did, I had a suit but forgot to pack the shoes when I left the house so I didn't end up wearing it. Sandy called me and told me that I didn't need the suit but I brought it anyway.

HPA is a Class Act!

Attire: Wondered this same question back in August. Business casual for the classes and the sims. The business suit was for the oral at the end of first week and checkride on last day. Caveat, if you do your oral on Sunday of the first week, you may be able to go from the review session straight to the oral. Hence, only wearing the suit once for the checkride. For the classes and sims, it seemed like wearing a button down or nicer polo type shirt and khakis was the norm. Personally wouldn't recommend jeans. You'll meet SWA rep on Friday of the first week. Again, business casual (don't need to impress them with a new shirt and tie). Leave the tie in your room for the two days you'll wear the suit.

Brought two white shirts for the... wait, I won't go there. Probably already going to get myself into trouble talking about clothes

Higher Power is a great place as you will find out. The people are great! You must study before you go; I did not and paid the price and played catch-up from day one. The oral was not particularly difficult, just basic questions about the buttons. The sim training was a walk in the park. I am not "Joe Pilot" but it is as basic instruments flying as you can get with limited callouts etc. The only realy challange in the sim I had was all the multiple flap speeds while performing the maneuvers; that is, selecting them at the correct speeds both decelorating and accelerating. Other than that, not a big deal. But I must say again, study before you go unless you have a great ability to learn very quickly. Overall, it is a great experience...Higher Power is the only way to go!
