How can I pursue getting certified as a aircraft mechanic? Where and how can I do this? Is it a tough thing to do? How much $$$ would it cost?

I think it would be a good backup in case things don't work out flying for whatever reason. Any information you can provide would be great.

Thanks.

Go to the FAA.gov website. They have a "How Do I...?" section that gives a pretty good summary of how to get an Airframe & Powerplant Cetificate. from there you should be able to search for schools in your area.

Good Luck

You can also get trained in each catagory.

A generalization abviously but, you can get 18 months per rating and get an FAA sign off to take the orals and praticals in luie of going to A&P school.

18 months practical full time experience for either the airframe or power plant ratings (practical experience relevant to the rating), or a combined 30 months of practical full time experience performing both airframe and powerplant maintenance, qualifies.

If you have a chance to attend a formal school, go that route.
