I've got a couple of questions which I am trying to come up with good answers, I'd appreciate some input and how you would answer the following questions:

Tell me what a good and bad decision is?
Your Good and Bad traits? (this one will oviously vary from person to person)

Describe the Theory of Light........? This is the most difficult one - anything constructive?

Then the more technical ones:
What are you looking for at the Decision alt. on ILS?
(rwy environment, lights, app lts, etc)
Describe airport lighting? (easy one)

Thanks!

Based on your TT, this sounds like you're getting ready for your first interview.
Like you said, it varies person to person, but I have had 3 interviews now and i've used the same b.s. each time successfully. Good traits- safetyoriented and an eager learner
Bad- detail oriented (not really but it works)
-never be negative about yourself

I've also hired new CFI's before..and nothing gets me more than when you ask a guy why you should hire him....he gives you the usual b.s. and then you ask the guy next to him with less experience and he says you should probably hire the other guy since he has more dual given. WTF is that? Have a little confidence in your self and your abilties.....and always be ready for the WHY US and then WHY YOU? You'll get that one until the end of your career.

As for the tech questions, you should know 91.175 cold anyhow if you fly IFR and some review of the AIM never made anyone dumber. Never mind I take that back.

Good luck...PM me if you have more questions or need more input.

Make sure you know 91.175 well, like deez nutz said. This reg will follow you no matter where you go, 91, 121, 135.

Usually if you have to take the ILS to DA, then there is only one thing you're gonna see; the rabbits, followed by the MALSR/ALSF, and then the runway environment. I remember the first time that happened to me, quite a rush.

Good luck!

We're trying to help a guy out, don't change the subject.........arghhhhhhhh;)

Thanks - great input.
And yes, lets stay on subject.

So your answer is that short for negative traits?

If I answered I am "detail-oriented" that might just fly?

well you need to come up with your own answers...i just say that i have a tendency to focus on detail above and beyond that which is expected, i try to make everything the best it can be.

you dont want to give an interviewer a list of things that are bad about you...sure we all have them but dont give them reasons why they shouldnt hire you. try to focus on your positive attributes and how they allow you to be an asset to them. i saw on a previous post that someone recommended a book on "How to Hire". This is great advice..it lets you see what most interviewers are looking for in an answer....A lot of times there is no right answer....they want to see how you carry yourself and how confident you are.

Good decision = well brewed beer
Bad decision = trying to save money with generic crappy beer

Good Trait = buying beer for your buddy
Bad Trait = always letting someone buy but never returning favor

Theory of light = turn light switch on and you see light, turn switch off and its dark again, it also goes really quick

DA = 91.175

sorry couldnt resist seriously though its best not to have a canned answer for these type of questions. The best answer is what you think. Now as far as technical questions like the DA one you want to know that reg cold. Its best to know your airplane inside and out, your regs, weather, etc.. Oh ya make sure they want to spend the layovers with ya and show a strong desire to work for the company. If you can show them you know your stuff then they want to make sure they can get along with you on a 4 day trip. Once that happens the jobs yours my friend.. good luck

Why does a moderator delete every post that compliments me on my Angle of Attack? Come on guys, have a little humor!

Dude!! Nice Angle of Attack!! (She have a sister??)

Sled, what's mine is yours. We're all brothers here. Yes, she has sisters, but they're shy.

my 2cents

Good trait, Eager hard working respectful, dedicated, loyal.

Think of traits that exemplify the company you are applying for, and also think of traits a Capt wants to see in his FO (bc they do most of the interviewing).

Examples teamwork, CRM, respectful, hard working

Bad traits. Ones I have used impatient but then i quantified it by saying how I have improved that trait and why. Hard on myself too much. is another one i have heard of.

An interesting ? asked in an interview what would your boss say was your biggest strength and or weakness.

D

What about this?

If the interviewer asks me about a weakness I was intending to site something like knowledge of microwave landing systems because I have only read about them and never used them.

Just intending to plug that hole with something that they already know that I dont know.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Hey there guys,

Sorry, been a little busy lately. Got hired and start GS on the 1st. Pretty excited! Thanks for the help, I was told by the CP that I controlled myself better in the interview than he would have at 40 - so I have to give credit to those that helped answer some of the questions I asked.......

Thanks!

How would you answer these:

1. How would you describe the FO's Job? (trying to sober up the capt doesnt count!)

2. How would you describe Customer Service?(mile high club doesnt count either!)

3. How do you handle stress?

Sorry, didn't mention the company name - it would be Era Aviation based in ANC. Its nothing like an RJ job, but am glad I'm in class.

Congrats! I'm happy for you...I know youve been trying to get on with them for quite some time, and Pen Air too if my memory serves me right....Sounds like you'll be going into a Twin Otter??? Best of luck.....

Yeah thanks, I've been trying to get on with Era, never have made any attempts at PenAir. Much rather be in the Twotter than right seat in the Caravan! Anyways, should be a great expereince!
