I have a number of friends (no really, I pay them to be my friends) who are interviewing with SWA in April. If I start class April 12th how early will I get an employee number? And how soon will I be able to give one of them "online" rec's for the decision board. Also does it even help considering how new an employee I'll be?

Thanks for your input.

PS I am especially looking for input from current SWA pilots or employees.

I saw the list of the 29 March class posted in the OAK pilot lounge on Saturday, 27 March with employee numbers. On-line recommendations are done through the crew portal myswa.com

I would think you could do it soon after starting class.

TR4 is right, the day you start (since you have an employee number) you can do the online ref. The value of your recommendation will be based upon what you say about the applicant. Lots of experiences & examples of SWA type characteristics, then you're letter will carry weigh....just an acquaintance who is trying to simply get a "SWA employee" letter in his file, don't waste the time IMHO. HOpe that helps,

Love your Avtar...

TR4A - Nice ride! I've been a Spitfire/GT6 driver and builder for years.

They (people dept.) came to one of my friends newhire class and pulled him out. He was thinking "what did I do?" Then they asked him about another friend that had just interviewed.

Your feedback about someone counts on day one.
Welcome to Southwest!!

Are the online rec's helpful with getting the interview or only for after when the hiring board meets?

Thanks and Fly Safe

It will not get you a faster interview.

Thanx for the info!

'Preciate the fast responses. This will help alot. Fortunately I have known the guy since 88!

LORs & electronic LORs

My weak minded understanding as they have explained it to eh line pilots via several newsletters & flyers. Letters of reference are a part of the Decision Board process & have no part to play in the sort of interview candidates. For example, the Mar interviewees have a deadline (I believe) of 8 April for all electronic LORs to be submitted. This allows sufficient time for the folks in the PD/flight ops to gather them up, sort & prepare packages for the DB members in mid April. hope that helps,

A buddy recently read me a memo that had all of the names of the March interviewees and instructions on how to do the online rec. It encourouged everyone to put in an online recomendation/comment for any folks they were friends with/flew with in a former life.

It stated clearly that the online recs were for people who had already been called for interviews and they would not be excepted for people who had applied but not yet been called. With that being the case, it can't have any bearing on who gets called for interviews.

The deadline for recs on March candidates was posted as April 5.

Hope that helps.
