How old is too old to start an aviation career if your long term goal is to fly for a major? I am just about to begin my Airline career at 35 yrs and I have been told I'm too old....

35 no big deal

We had a lady who started at age 50, two years later she was an F/O on a DC-9. Took an early retirement bought an airplane and flew 1000 hours in her first year. Got on as a CV-580 F/O, then came to USA Jet. This was back in 1998.

I'm almost 34, but I just finished my first year at a regional. You have plenty of time left.

Don't waste any more time, tho. If you can get on at the end of this hiring boom, so much the better.

Got my first regional job at age 43...

It's never too late to realize your goals and dreams.

(Of course, this is highly dependent upon what you mean by the word, "late"! ;) )

Good luck.

How much money is enough money?

If you can afford to live off of the low low pay, it's never too late to start a job as an airline pilot.

If not now......when?

Come on in the water's fine... don't look just jump. A lot of people around here look and feel very old anyway after losing the last few years to 911. I soloed in 89 and it took 10 years to finish up and the burn still wouldn't leave " I was too old at 27 " Just make sure you really want to know how the sausage is made....

I got my license at 32, got hired at a regional at 37 and am now at a major at 45.

I was told back in 1994 that I'd be too old to fly for a major. I guess they were wrong.

In my new hire class at the regional there were two guys in their 50's. Both second careers folks and both with no regrets...STILL!

If flying is what you want then follow Nike's advice and just do it! Be prepared for a wild ride!!

You will do well

I see a great attitude, you are flying for the right reason, best of luck. BTW I left the Navy in 1977 at age 32 with 2700 hours of military flight time and was told by the major's I was too old, and hours to age were out of ratio. How times change
