Every **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** day, unfortunately.

I used to read a chapter a day of scripture, but only bought a new commercial "FAR/AIM" each year to put on the shelf. Sadly, now I can quote the regulation better than the scripture, which doesn't say good things about me.

I still honor a tradition each new year of taking the previous year's commercial FAR/AIM up in the hills and blasting it to little paper scraps with a .45 auto. I always feel better.

FAR/AIM

Don't go by me. I'm sure people will take this wrong, but I haven't cracked the FAR/AIM for its own sake in ten years because I've been out of flying that long. Of course, matters would be different if I were flying, and matters will change if I resume flying.

However, when we have discussions involving the regs, I look them up online. You learn and remember far more if you have a reason to learn something. Don't forget the laws of learning. Learning is purposeful. You will be amazed at how well you will learn the regs when your students come to you with questions about them that you cannot answer immediately.

I would put a serious expression on my face and say "let's see if you can find that regulation yourself...."

I'd only get stuck if they couldn't find the reg... :D

I read the book daily. I will simply skim over the table of contents or index and then read on the subjects that interest me.

I also peruse over the other resources that I have. Being a professional pilot, folks tend to expect you to have answers to their basic questions. Therefore, I study up for the daily "pop quizes" that I get.

Aaaaaaaaaand, judging from the antics that I see at my home-base airport on a daily basis, there are quite a few folks out there that need a little brushing up......:)

I will skim through it frequently when I am on a trip. I usually spend the majority of my time in the 91/135 sections as well as the AIM. I will also try and take the ops specs and aircraft manuals as well with me.

As often as necessary.

I agree with Toy Soldier, I like to keep as updated as possible, not just to be able to answer questions of others, but to maintain as much profssionalism and knowledge as I can.

When I was going for my CFI, I really went through parts 61 and 91 until I saw them in my sleep -- but I was really prepared for the oral and felt like I had really earned the certificate.
