Ok, here is the most stupid oral question ever, the one that every one has heard of someone getting asked but no one really seems to know the answer:

How much does the main battery weigh in a CL-65?

How much does the APU battery weigh in a CL-65?

Speaking of maintence topics, how come there is no forum on here for mechanics? They have forums for flight attendents and dispatchers, but no forum for mechanics.

To get to the other side.

Wait, wrong answer. WTF are they asking THAT for? You luggin' them around?

Yes, that is a stupid question! I can't think of a situation why you would actually need to know that. Reminds me of --"How many steps are there on the boarding stairs?"

Who cares ... other than the technicians removing/installing them or the stores guys moving them?

Bob

Maybe he wanted to know if you know what's in the equipment list

Who the ******************** cares?! If a check airmen cares about this and wants to know then ask him where the ******************** it says what it weighs in any of the books you've been issued. Thats all they can test you on.

Wow, that guy really needs to get a life.

Trick question...CL 65 is not an airplane....its a type rating.

no they dont ask anything, its a company issued type. Well I take that back, they ask if they like to be the pitcher or the catcher, most choose catcher because uncle H is the pitcher and they want to be a team player. The company also issues a knife for backstabbing. And a handbook on how to prove your not really a scab, its not a good handbook by anymeans.

Sounds like one of those FAA type trying to prove he/she knows more than you do.

Had a question asked on a type ride years back....... "Why can't you fly this aircraft above FL-290 for more than 8 hours at a time?" me..."Uhhhh, because it only carries 7 hours of fuel at max endurance cruise?"

The answer homie was looking for was something about the UV radiation and that the windows did not filter out enough of it for more than 8 hours............silly me, I guess I missed that meeting of the hypothetical engineers consortium! Or maybe he was expecting me to rip out a few seats in the cabin and mount another fuel tank back there! :)

Tell CM (is that the checkairman you are talking about?) the battery weights are not listed anywhere in the FCM or FTM and therefore aren't of relevance to you the pilot. Then nod your head like you are learning something when he tells you what they are and why they really *are* important to you.

CAE has a *huge* maintenance binder that has the weights in it if its really important...

Just out of curiousity, what DOES the batteries weigh, and what airline would this be wanting you to know that?

What? APU's need a seperate battery?

On the 145 the small backup battery provides power to the APU control (FADEC) and Batt2 provides power to the APU starter/generator for starting. This is the same idea as on the CRJ. Main batt powers the ECU and bigger APU batt cranks the starter. They just have different names for the batteries is all.

Uh... thanks. Read the dork RJ pilot thread yet?

Screw you. You're an instructor, a flaming d-bag, and most definitely a dork for even PM-ing me. Nobody cares about how smart you are, instructor boy, so quit showing off. I sh*t bigger than pilot wannabes like you.
Hey moron, your stupid response took about 30 seconds after I posted. I was just answering the guy's question, you are sitting around thinking of stupid things to say you toolbag. Get a life.

you are real brave being a smart arse on an anonymous forum. I happen to be an instructor on the airplane and was trying to answer the guy's question.

Thanks for the PM. Love the unfounded agression. Just go home and kick your dog, ok.

See my PM, dork. Quit showing off, little instructor boy, nobody's impressed.

Maybe they are looking for guys who are smart enough to know where to find this stuff.

Or maybe looking to weed out the lazy, or the smartasses!

If something is not in the materials the company gives me (GOM, Flight Crew Manual, or Flight Training Manuals), and believe me when I say battery weights aren't in there for the CRJ, then I can't and shouldn't be responsible for knowing it.

that shows me you are lazy and can't think outside of the box. every airplane has an equipment list

This message is hidden because John Pennekamp is on your ignore list.

Back to the original thread... I have to agree that asking the battery weight is a stupid question. Did the guy still pass you on the oral when You didn't know the answer? Did he say why he thought this was necessary information.

This question is just like asking a private pilot candidate on their checkride what the main tire pressure is. "Uhhhhhhhhh, I have no idea, its in the AOM" would be the response. And that would be a correct answer.

If I was asked this question I would say "Gee I don't know, its not in any of my training materials, but I'm sure its listed in the maintenance binders."

You cannot be held liable on a PC for aircraft-specific information, facts or limitations that are not listed in company-provided materials.

Oh, ouch! You're killing me! I cannot believe you're taking web board insults this personally. Scary to think that someone this mentally unstable is an ERJ instructor. Dork.
