Concur with the estimate of 1Q11.

The pool will not supply all of the needs for the first wave of hiring (around 180+)....those interviewed and selected in 1Q11 will help fill some of those slots....SWA will keep some in the "new pool" (the old one will definitely need to be disinfected and cleaned!!!!...glad to have it empty finally).

It won't be until later in 3 or 4Q11 to determine future needs for '11.

Train all of who? AirTran guys? Indoctrination info will likely be sent out in the form of bulletins and manuals..

I'd be highly surprised if there wasn't some formal training. Call outs, SOP's, paperwork are all different, not to mention that most of us haven't flown a round-dial airplane since Clinton was in office.

Plus you guys have to come have your shot of wild turkey and be indoctrinated. I think the chances of getting a SWA badge in the mail and just going to work are zero.

Are the AT planes HUD equip'ed for low vis t/o and cat III approaches?

No, All of our cat III approaches are auto land. Nothing below 4000 RVR is hand flown.

Make sure you buy an nice new pair of white sneakers to wear with your jeans so we all know you are a swa pilot. You may not be invited to a room party without them....oh and a hawaiian style shirt for your FL overnights...a must have

It would also be cool if they implemented the IAN procedures we use for non precision approaches (no dive and drive is nice....man I've become lazy)

NO.

all growth is due to merger. GK said the airline would be zero growth thru 2012 w/o the aai merger. fwiw

Was told in re-interview that need for poolies in Q1 was NOT related to AT purchase but for SWA needs/growth (EWR, CHS, GSP, etc). Needs due to AT purchase are being evaluated by a team of SWA folks who are working hard to figure all these type of things out.

Unless Gary Kelly was sharing mis-information on 9/27 he clearly mentioned the first hiring to be done in 2 years due to the merger. I watched the press conference live.

Guess you missed the "live" news conference this summer when we announced EWR, CHS, GSP. Those flights have to come from somewhere.
