First, you've got to change that Avatar back to the really interesting one I'm used to.
FedEx is easily more that 50% military. How much higher, don't know. I wouldn't let that get your skirt bunched up though.
Plenty civilians get the opportunity to interview. I think the key to getting called in is the quality/quantity of your sponsors. You really need someone inside cheering for you.
If I had to guess I would say the military/civil ratio was closer to two thirds military. And of the 1/3 civilian pilots at FedEx, majority of them are ex-Tiger guys.
There was a short time period back in early/mid '01 during the postal contact wave that the ratio coming in was 50/50 but that was short lived. 9/11 hit, the hiring slowed and it was back to 75/25. I was one of the fortunate civilian hires, along with many of my classmates, that have been on property for a little over 2 yrs and are flying right seat on the MD11.
Keep your fingers crossed for some fresh meat after the first of the year but in reality there probably won't be any new hires until Apr-May. Best of Luck.
I took a quick look at the last six classes hired, (they were in the months of June, July, and Aug 2002). A total of 71 were hired, of which 16 had no military aviation background listed. About 77% military, methinks.
There was a class of 24 that started in Nov of last year. Don't know their stats though. The Aug 26th class was told it would be the last class, but then they surprised us by bringing on the double class in Nov. Can't wait till they hire a few more!
