thanks, I think Andy metnioned they were bought by Bombadier, but dont see any info on website.

The P68 is nice, definate possibility for private aircraft one day when I fly for Emirates...:D

But the co. wants turbine, so far the Do228 looks like a winner, Let410 is well known here, Twotter is in the running too, but slow. The Commander would be great, but the door is a problem.
The Skyvan would be a good workhorse too, but short legs and just a little slow.
the An28 looks good as well, but difficult to get info, dont even know if they are still made?
 
You've limited the choices to a high-wing, presumably for propellor and ground clearance. But an aircraft like the Commander has precious little propellor clearance, and lacks the big, ditch-crossing rock-climbing nosewheel that you'd find on a King Air. You might find that a King Air 90, 100 or old 200 with high float gear fits the bill nicely. A clapped out C99 would come with very low capital costs that could complement a low utilization medical operation. The Reims/Cessna F406 is another overbuilt low-winger that might work. The Beech family can offer you a foot or more of propellor clearance, and the F406 may even be bit more than that.

mission as i believe it is the following:
Medical evacuation type of transport but one patient at a time. so you dont need anything huge or airliner type.
Ground clearance and high wing for off field landings and i presume that means rugged gear too..

PARTENAVIA P68 victor. fixed gear twin high wing. 200 mph and 1200 miles. 5 passengers+pilot. 1500+lbs useful. (-gas)

Rockwell OV-10 Bronco?- 5 paratroops can be carried in back there.

ASTA nomad- 12 passenger high wing. 8500 pound max. can operate from 730 foot runways. allison 250 turboprops. good room. great visibility. routinely fitted with doctor configurations.

Antonov AN-14 Clod. a small pod with long wings and a cool funky hatch in the back. good room for what you need of 1 passenger. interesting STOL short haul transport.
 
I vote OV-10

If you want something that can really handle the tough landings, try to get your hands on an OV-10. A few have been converted for civilian use. It can carry two stretchers and a medic.

The OV-10 gear was actually designed to land on a very rough runway. I remember seeing a movie during RTU, where a test pilot landed the airplane on a specially designed washboard runway with 1-2 ft swells. The airplane survived it just fine, but the pilot ended up with separated ribs! The OV-10 has great STOL capability. It was also designed for remote field operations with unimproved surfaces and can take all kinds of gas. Its normal cruise aispeed was 185 knots with a max speed of 350, as I recall. As a side benefit, it is fully acrobatic and can take 6 Gs. Since it was designed to mil spec it is probably the most rugged airplane in its class. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!
 
Airpiraterob & dgs thanks guys, very helpfull, You are correct in the ops, but sometimes we do have 2 patients. Very very seldom we have more , but thats one in 20 or so flights.

where can I get info re the OV10?

cardinal we have F406's in co, they are not suited, too low prop clearance and too jumpy, appr too fast as well. I dont wanna do what we do in a 406!:eek: :D BE90 or 200 would have better prop clearance methinks...

OV-10=great low level single engine airplane.

(two half-engines).

wings with similiar square footage to .37 class A postage stamp.

wonderful visibility (all the better to see them shooting at you, my dear...)
 
avbug -- I'm not sure where you are coming from with the two half-engines. The O-2 (Cessna Skymaster) has a difficult time flying on one engine, but the OV-10 is significantly more powerful. The wingspan is 40 ft. Your stamp box must be pretty large. The OV-10 is great at low levels because of its visibility and maneuverability. I'm not sure where you are coming from here. How much time do you have in the OV and why do you dislike it? I flew it and, like most people I know, enjoyed it a lot for what it was--a high performance twin turboprop, but not an F-15 or F-16!

Skaz -- There is a very active OV-10 pilots group--guys who really enjoyed flying the OV-10. Try http://www.ov-10bronco.net/ for more info on the OV-10. They would probably have the best leads for trying to buy a civilian version. Good luck.
