To hold a line and be above the G Line for PBS as of December about 8 months now. When I was hired guys within 2 months were holding a line.

Bidding for base/equipment

Can you bid for a different base/equipment while in training? i.e. Dec. 19th class date...you get 737 EWR and you want 737 IAH? And can someone explain G-line? Thnks guys!

G-line is the lowest seniority number that will hold a line as long as he does not bid reserve first. Anyone below that line could hold a line if someone above the line bids reserve but he needs to bid reserve preferences just incase. If you are above the g-line you do not have to bid reserve preferences.

Clear as mud?

At CAL we only bid on other bases/AC every six months so it depends on when you get hired on how long you have to be in the undesired postion. The bids usually run in August and January. There have been some adjustment bids but I have not seen yet since Jan. 06

If any of you guys know Jay D. from PCL, got hired there about 6-8 months ago, could you PM me? Would like to give you my phone # to ask him to give me a call...

Thanks,

/hijack :)

Can anyone tell me what people are getting hired at? I know the minimums, but I can't think they are competitive, any info is appreciated.
Thanks.

Umm, there is a hot mic selector on the 737, all models! The PTT switch on the yoke is a 3 place switch. Push the top for R/T, push the bottom for I/T, release and it spring loads to the center off position. Also, on the audio control panel for the CA, FO, and j/s there is a 2 place switch clearly marked I/T and R/T. You can adjust the volume on the ACP's. It is how the CA talks to the ground crew. If you want to where clamps, Neal, you can and use the "hot mic" switch as described above, but lets face it, you just wanna sound cool keying the mic wearing the plantronics and sounding like your in a wind tunnel! ;-)

Cheers

P.S. I know I'm a wise-ass!

Thanks for the systems lesson wise-ass. :D But perhaps you should read up on what the word "hot mic" means...yes, now it is I who is being the wise-ass. But the 737 doesn't have a "hot mic" - but it DOES have a push to talk intercom, yes.

And do you really follow that "sport" called NASCAR you redneck? :D

Occasionally they let people transfer in between the bids.

The E120 and CRJ both had the same system that the 737 has. You want a "Hot Mic" like in a 172 or something? I couldn't stand when guys would leave their mic "on" and would breathe heavy, or eat, sneeze, etc. I would much rather have a switch to turn it on and off.

And f*ck yeah I watch NASCAR. I'm a "yankee redneck" ;-) Jimmie is going to win the cup this year. Can't wait to watch the race this weekend with my new son, due out tomorrow!

Umm... unless your CRJ was different than the one at PCL, then it's completely different than on the 737 (and the 727 and the 717) unless you guys a CAL have a different COMM panel setup. (Don't know about the E120).

On the CRJ, the YOKE-based PTT switch could be left "up" in the "hot" mic position.

I liked having the CRJ hot mic position for taxi, t/o, approach, and ldg, as the cockpit was noisy as crap and I wore the ear-mold plantronics in one ear and a ear plug in the other. I agree with you about using it during cruise though, would get loud and annoying, gotta turn it back off.

Can't do that on the Boeing which sucks cause I can't hear the guy in the other seat WITHOUT a headset over my ear sometimes, much less an earplug in if he's one of those quiet-spoken people. A hot mic would be nice when it gets busy... I get tired of anticipating what he might have asked for and having to restate it again, "Flaps 18? OK, flaps 18."

Congrats on the newborn! My first turned 1 a couple weeks ago, he just started walking this week. I was very lucky, I was in town for it over at my dad's place for dinner - I think he was waiting for an audience or something... :D

Just a suggestion, but take AS MUCH TIME AS YOU CAN off and enjoy it! :)

Technically you are right. The yoke PTT is spring loaded to the center position. I never left the CRJ (E120 was the same) in the up position because I got chewed out by CA's when I did during any phase. It just became habit to reach for the switch to talk and then throw it off when done. Neal was just making it sound like there was no other way to communicate in the cockpit except for yelling or sign language, between his rocking and drooling he has a tough time with both.

On to more important things, I should be at the hospital now as the induction was to start about an hour ago but it got postponed for some reason that we haven't been told. Looks like tomorrow morning at 6am so I'll probably change my first diaper tomorrow night.:puke:

Cheers

Watch out for that first one....It's a DOOZIE!!!

Actually,,, the first one isn't bad at all. It's all black tar-ish but has no smell. Remember, baby's been feeding directly off mommy (perfect or near-perfect transmission of nutrients with no nasty by-products).

Breast milk turns them bright yellow, but still not too much of a smell.

Now, once you start formula and baby food, OMG... get some vicks mentho rub, dab a bit under your nose, and breathe through your mouth. LOL ;)

Really, it's not so bad, and pales in comparison with everything else fun, you won't even notice.

Hope everything turns out OK! We induced and were STILL in the hospital for 18 hours before baby came. He was happy in there evidently... LOL ;)

I just kept it off for sneezes and eating and whatnot...but...

...congratulations on the new addition. But please don't taint him with that redneck "sport" of yours...I hear college basketball season just started though!

Hey, any baby born during football season automatically comes out with a predisposition for the best sport in American History...

My kid LOVES it when the Cowboys or Notre Dame play. :D

OK, that should stir the hornet's nest some... LOL ;)

He'll be driving go-karts by 3 and flying airplanes by 5!
Hopefully he'll be driving quarter midgets before 10.

I heard that about the first one and breast milk. We are going to keep him off the bottle for as long as possible.
