It took me a couple weeks to get my initial CFI. The hardest part was learning to fly from the right seat. Everything seemed backwards for a couple hours until I got use to it. My strength was I had taught several subjects prior to starting my flight training so the teaching part was easier. I found a very experienced instructor at a local FBO who preferred to teach only instrument and CFI students. He was reportedly the hardest instructor in the area. He worked me like a rented mule. But my check was a cake walk. The material I had down cold, lesson plan book was full of specific competition requirements, source documents, and visual aids to teach from. When I was asked to teach a lesson for the check ride, I pulled the book out and just followed the lesson plan. Prior planning - prevents - p*ss poor performance. Remember that the CFI is more about being able to teach than to fly. The more prepared you are for a lesson the better you will be able to teach – and pass your check ride.
