Broad question but here we go...Lets take Chataqua for example. Do they own the aircrafts that they fly or do they just put the crews in them?

depends on the company Travis....Chautauqua for example is a publically traded company...that owns (or leases) theyre airlines using money they get from various holding companies. They then contract theyre services to major airlines to operate in and out of cities designated by that airline. For example , when CHQ is operating as the Delta Connection most of theyre service is in and out of Cincinnati and Atlanta which are considered "hubs" or major focus cities for Delta. There are other regional airlines however, that are wholly owned by a major airline. For instance, Comair is owned by Delta Airlines (although we dont know for how much longer) and PSA is owned by USAirways. All of the flight crews however are employed solely by theyre prospective regional airline and are in no way affiliated with Delta, United, USair, etc...All in flight procedures, callouts, etc....are specific to that company and type of aircraft....hope this helps....anymore questions feel free to pm me

It really is quite complicated....there is a BIG picture and a puppeteer involved somewhere.

I have a question. What does 'theyre' mean?

It's a word that has been taught in public schools since 2003. It is meant as a replacement for their, there and they're. It is due to funding cutbacks. Why spend time and money teaching three words, when you could just teach one?

Both, some are real airlines others are mainline puppets. Example? Skywest=Real, Pinnacle=Puppet. I'd say real airlines offer better work rules but an exception is MESA.

I'd say that "real" airlines fly their own code, puppet airlines fly other peoples code.

wow i think weve officially stooped to an all time low on here.... a student pilot gets on here and asks a genuine question about how our industry works and instead of answering the question, you all find it imperative to correct my grammer and to stomp on Chautauqua and Mesa....unbelieveable....give it up for five minutes and answer the guys question....get over yourselves....
