Alright, so you get the interview, you get the job, you celebrate, you get a class date and show up. Most regionals put you in a hotel for the duration, so WHAT do you pack for the entire 2 months?

This may seem like a silly question. But for those of us who haven't experienced regional airline flying(and training), it could help to read some stories.

Is there usually a laundromat nearby? Do you have a dress code for class? Do you normally share a room with someone else? Do you eat out a lot or bring food to the 2x2 1/2 foot refrigerator in the room like it's a college dorm room?

1. Ramen noodles
2. Beat up vcr to play crash pad porno's over and over again
3. Yearly subscription to Club Magazine!
4. Old bed sheets to throw on top of air mattress shared by everyone in crash pad!

We had double occupancy during training. I just took a week's worth of clothes. Business casual is most likely the dress code for ground school.....pack a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts...maybe swim trunks. There's usually a laundry room in the hotel. As for food, you'll probably want to decompress a few times a week, so you'll most likely end up going out for dinner at least 4 times a week. The rest of the time, Ramen noodles, peanut butter and jelly, frozen dinners, fruit, oatmeal. Whatever floats your boat. You'll be able to find a grocery store nearby to buy that stuff when you get there. Most hotels will also have some sort of shuttle service for you poor bastards, that will take you into town or to the grocery store, etc. etc.

Have fun.......and don't forget, the most important thing to study when you feel the stress is the bottom of a beer glass, or the inside of your eye lids....

Regardless, you will be able to commute home on the weekends. I know of at least one airline that won't let you jumpseat until you are done with training but that is their own effort to reduce monday morning no-shows. Once you have your ID you can jumpseat home on any other airline (space available) and decompress with your family and friends. Just be an adult and give yourself a bunch of chances on sunday to get back to work. Good luck and enjoy your training.

What ever you pack, pack light. They are going to give you a bunch of extra stuff to bring home so leave some room. I dont recomend bringing any food you can get that at training.

...

your going to gain 15 pounds during ground school because you will go to the mexican restaurant every other night or so.

hair gel, lots of it, not sure what brand, but it seems like those generic tubs with sprinkles should last forever

ipod to headset adapter, you dont want to have wires running everywhere on the flight deck (safety issue)

a solid bookpack, the brighter the better, it'll never get lost

some oakleys would be nice, but pretty much any wraparounds will do, raybans are ok

cellphone with a camera, to take sweet pics on the ramp and inflight

plenty of "crew" tags

"remove before flight" flag, for the key chain, at least a foot long

sponge bob rolling case, the smaller the better, will never get lost and you can stow it anywhere

that's about it, and later you may want to get a chart case, leather one
