I'll be in IAH tomorrow and have access to a rental car. Is the space center worth going to. How about anywhere else?

Thanks

If you like BBQ the above is a must, best bbq anywhere in my opinion. Someone documented a visit, not I but it was well done. A lot of aviation history there as well. It is on your way so give it a shot, you will not be disapointed if you like bbq.

I have been to the space center a few times there and the trip is worth it. (atleast if it is your 1st visit)!.

Keep in mind that from IAH it is a bit of a drive and depending on the traffic you could be spending more time in traffic than you first anticipated.

enjoy

If you're like me, try San Jacinto. Perhaps an easier drive than the Space Center. I haven't been in so long, I can't say nowadays. But a very historic and moving place for me. One of the most lop-sided victories in a major battle until recently. It was mostly over in 20 minutes, though the Texans hunted for stragglers for a day or more.

"The casualties, according to Houston's official report, numbered 630 Mexicans killed, 208 wounded, and 730 taken prisoner. As against this heavy score, only nine Texans were killed or mortally wounded, and thirty wounded less seriously. Most of their injuries came from the first scattered Mexican volley when the attackers stormed their barricade. The Texans captured a large supply of muskets, pistols, sabers, mules, horses, provisions, clothing, tents and paraphernalia, and $12,000 in silver."

The Nasa Space Center is pretty cool. They have a shuttle sim that you can fly, and several other interesting exhibits. I recommend it!:)

dont wast your time going there...drive a few extra miles down to galveston and go to the lone star flight musuem...very cool...

the space musuem is for little kids...

if you go anywhere between the hours of 7a-10a and 445p-7p go the beltway/tollway...you will save yourself traffic issues...

Yea, if I had to pick between the two, the museum in Galveston would win hands down! Have fun.

You might also want to consider checking out Kemah. It's in between Houston and the Space Center and sits right on the bay.

I don't know how to describe it, so check out the website: http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/

Landry's is always a good place to eat there, and overlooks the ocean from the dining room.

As for the space center, I wouldn't recommend it. I just went last July on a two-day layover in Houston, and I was really disappointed. I went there many times as a kid growing up, but it's changed way too much. Too commercialized, and frankly theres not as much to look at as it use to be. Just feels like a great big kids playground. Everythings off-limits because of our new security-crazed era, so it's not much to do anymore.

Is the musem in galveston on the airport? I have been thinking about doing a quick day cross country down to Galveston to get some IFR X-C hours.

yeah, its about a block from the terminal

I thought the space center was a neat spot to visit. It was more interesting since there was a shuttle crew in orbit at the time, but I'd still recommend checking it out.

There's a great oriental massage parlor just about a mile south of Ellington field that I've heard is worth checking out as well.
