Doing a little planning ahead here and wondering what the nice areas around CVG. I know I saw earlier that most people recommended N. KY. I'm looking a for a two bedroom condo (still can't believe that we have to get an extra bedroom for the G/F's crap) or apartment in a reasonable part of town. Thanks for any help.

Personally, the only way that my wife and I can handle living here is living on the Ohio side in the Hyde Park neighborhood. It only takes about 25 minutes to get the employee lot, but more importantly, there's a lot of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and watering holes to walk to. In Northern Kentucky, it's pretty much Anytown, USA with your cookie cutter subdivisions and chain stores and restaurants. But some people like that, so it may be something you're interested in as well. Whatever you choose, good luck...and it won't be long before you start calling this place, "Cincinnasty". :D

I just moved away from CVG.

My wife and I lived in the Orleans subdivision in Union Kentucky. When you drive into the neighborhood you have to drive past all of the $300,000 houses and follow the signs to "Maple St. Homes".

There in Orleans North behind all of the rich folks is a neighborhood for first-time home buyers. Homes start in the $90,000 range for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath ranch and go up to $150,000-$160,000 for a 4-bedroom home. Community landscaping is really nice. Terrific sidewalks, well lit streets. There are a few ponds, a fantastic playground for the kids with basketball courts etc. Big park (we flew electric RC there). They have a no-money down program for first time buyers as well.

There are essentially a half-dozen home designs. You can not change the architecture (they're cookie-cutter homes) but you can pick the colors, carpet, kitchen appliances, brick, etc.

We owned the house for about a year-and-a-half and made quite a bit of money selling it. It's a good value for the money and there are good people living in the neighborhood.

A lot of Comair folks (and one PSA Captain) lived there and we used to joke that it was a good "Co-pilot" neighborhood. A great place to start out until your wife forces you to go buy that "Captain house". I think their website is www.maplestreethomes.com and they have several communities in OH and NKY. It's kind of the low-fare division of Fischer homes. (think Metrojet for houses)

Why pay rent? Buy yourself something small, get a few crash-padders to share it with you, and pay YOURSELF. That place is a bargain. We were sad to leave.

I would love to rent to pay the mortgage but I am not to sure that the G/F woud appreciate a lot of skanky piltos running in and out of the house at all times. She already has one of those doing it.

Tell her to get a job and buy a house anyway! ;)

Heck if she makes decent money then marry her and make her your full time sugar-momma!

I've always said my wife supports my flying habit.

If you are looking to rent, I might be able to help.

I rent a large two bedroom town house in Ft. Thomas ( quite nice area compared to most around cincy). very nicely appointed, garage down stairs, electric door opener, whirpool tub etc etc, only $825 a month.
PM me if you want more info.

It just so happens I have a 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath condo for sale on the west side of Cincinnati. Quiet building, good area, 2 minutes to the Interstate and I plan 30 minutes to get to CVG but can usually do it in a little less. You can be in it (mortgage, insurance, taxes, assoc dues) for around $600 a month.

PM me if you want further details.
