The airlines are the ones who put a burden on the airspace with hub and spoke... they need to pay for it and pass it onto the passenger....

What he said.

A BBJ or G550, or even a Citation or King Air, isn't the cause of chronic delays in EWR, JFK, LGA, ORD, etc...which is exactly what Smartskies is trying to spin. And guess what - a Challenger at TEB gets the exact same delay departing over ELIOT as a 737 at LGA.

General aviation does pay for ATC, via a fuel tax. Seeing as the current ATC system is built specifically to accommodate large banks in and out of hub airports, why should GA subsidize the airlines' irresponsible scheduling of flights?

and captain dad...Joe Merchant agrees with you...

Some of you airline guys don't get it. If it wasn't for the hub and spoke there would be a lot less congestion and delays. NWA put an article in their inflight magazine blaming GA for not paying there way and causing the congestion. The airlines cause the majority of congestion. My last trip I only used two towered airports. How often do the airlines to this? Not often. Like it or not the airlines should pay more and should start charging pax more instead of looking for everyone else to bail them out. Your management has been screwing for years and now you believe anything they say about this issue. I guess you'll take anything you can get if it implies more job security for you.

Blaming GA for congestion and delays is the biggest bunch of horse hockey i've ever seen. In the long run, penalizing GA won't do any of us any good.

Spineless Idiots

The wonderful people at "SmartSkies" are waging a PR war with the public to scare the uneducated masses into believing bull ******************** = chocolate. First of all, nothing on their website is coroborated with any type of statistical analysis. It's fearmongering.

They have this nifty calculator that "shows" how much more the airlines pay into the current system than the corporate "fat cats". Ironically, if you actually work out the math on a per-seat basis, the smaller jets actually pay more per seat than the airlines. So, these corporate "fat cats" are actually paying more, under the current system, than the passengers riding on the airlines.

No body actually looks into things like that. I don't think the general public is going to pick up on that either. The passengers are upset about waiting on tarmacs for hours on end, delayed flights, poor customer service, etc. Of course these ignorant passengers are being fed lies that it is because of corporate air travel that they are faced with these issues. So of course the public is going to back the airline's plan. It's all a game of better advertising and politics.

We got held up at the hold line in Vegas while 8 airliners cut in front of us. The controller handbook states first come first served. We didn't say a word, just waited until the rush was over and blasted off for podunk, out of everyones way. Your management overbooks the airspace, the ramps, and the terminals. You hold passengers captive so management can squeeze a few extra revenue legs in. Then they blame GA on delays. Shame on airline management.
Just a side note, my company contributed at least $1m to the local Vegas economy that week alone. And that was just one company, with one airplane. Do the math and you'll see how GA pays it's way in more ways than one.
