Just curious if any of you airline guys use any rapid rewards programs when you stay at hotels on overnights. Do any hotels let you do this? Just curious, figured it might be a good way to score some free hotel stays.

I think most airlines have pre-negotiated "Crew Rates" or they buy blocks of rooms, due to the discount the hotels don't give the crews points... However if you aren't flying for one of those airlines, I would definately sign up for the rewards programs... I get enough points for several tickets per year and then some...

I thought that I heard somewhere (may have been on this forum) that sometimes the people behind the desk will look the other way and give you the points.

That may just be speculation, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I get points most all the time. The exception may be the Holiday Inn in some areas. There may be others but, I generaly get points everywhere we stay. Except of coarse the Famous Five Towns. mmmmmm... Pound Cake..

I've stayed in Best Western's and Ramada Inns and in many cases, the people at the front desk have offered me a card in which you can earn points with each stay, even though the reservation was made by my company.

A Southwest Airlines rapid rewards card is a must, if you frequently stay in one of their partner hotel chains. I've earned 2 free tickets in the past 6 months from that alone.

it varies by the hotel and the staff. some say it is allowed, some say it isn't due to the discount rates. it certainly is worth it to try at your various overnights...

He is talking airline guys, which typically have negotiated contracts with hotels... If you company is making the reservation and you are paying for the room when you get there you are certainly elgible for points...

.....yes....I read that. I'll clarify. I'm not an airline guy, but my company has pre-negotiated rates at all of our hotels. They make and pay for all of our hotel reservations. I am still able to get rapid rewards points for specific hotel chains and airlines.
