I stayed at the BCN Hilton a lot several years ago w/TWA. It's a really classy hotel. There is a large, modern mall a block away and a department store(El Corte Ingles--kind of like Macy's/Dillards) on the other side.
You are near a subway or it's not too far to walk down to the tourist area near the waterfront. Watch your wallet, there is a lot of petty crime near there.
There are a couple of restaurants down there--Quinze Nites(sorry about the spelling) and Los Carricolles(not sure on the name of that one but ask around). There is a large plaza near the waterfront with cafes and restaurants(that's where Quinze Ni...whatever is!).
You should also try Cervezaria Catalunya--half way between the hotel and the waterfront. Also, there is a bar in a church behind the hotel a couple of blocks--I think it's called the social club. It's cheap at happy hour.
Good luck. Sorry my memory isn't better... Maybe the cerveza had something to do with that... Naahhhh! TC
P.S.--BTW, the BCN women are the best in Europe, IMO.
