With United and US Airways doing so poorly don't they make
great prospects for hostile takeovers?

Why haven't we heard about any financiers trying this?

There is so much value in these companies, if they can be built up correctly.
 
I wondered that very thing and asked a knowledgeable financial exec. He said, while the thought was intriguing, 55% of the United shares are held in ESOP and are hard to get at evidently.

Don't know what the story is with USAirways.
