Any Horizon pilots that could fill me in on:
1. Time on reserve:
2. Min days off per month:
3. Is commuting possible on reserve / commuter clause:
4. Most junior aircraft and bases:
5. Future hiring plans:

Thanks!

1. Depends on what A/C you get.
2. Contract says at least 13 days off per bid (we're on a 5 week bid cycle) for lineholders and coverage and 12 for reserve.
3. You can commute whenever you want. I don't commute so I've never looked at the commuter clause but you might want to read the contract to find out more.
4. Junior base was Q200 in SEA but they're now downsizing that base so everything is now going to PDX. You might get the RJ in DEN though. It's all based on what they need the day you're hired.
5. Classes throughout the year in prep for the 400's arriving on property starting in December.

One more thing...

QX- thanks for the reply... a couple more questions...
How many different reserve periods are there?
Is there a long call / short call option?
How many hours to report after being called?
Thanks.

2 home reserve periods (0430 -1830, 1030 - 2400) and 2 airport reserve periods (0530 - 1330, 1200-2000). Home reserve call-out is 2 hours for SEA and 90 mins for PDX and DEN. There is currently no PM airport reserve in SEA. Apparently no airport reserve for DEN (?).

Horizon will be at the Northwest Aviation Conference

http://www.washington-aviation.org/NAC&TS.html

conducting mini-interviews and scheduling sim evals for placement in upcoming classes. For anyone who doesn't have someone on the inside to marshall their resume, this would probably be an excellent opportunity to get someone to take a serious look at you.

I hear there will be some interview CA's, ACP's, and HR folks on hand. Good luck.

Their mins are 100/1000. I got an email a few days ago saying that atleast 200 multi and 1400 total is competative. I also have a 4 year with CWU or UND and an internship with their sister company. Also, I have kept in contact with them over the last few years.

Based on the mins, how frequently do they hire CFI'S? I've heard they are tough to get into right now.....good company from what people have told me.

Send your little friend over for a "visit" and I'll see if I can pull some strings.

To give more info. In January I had my old CFI who works for Hoirzon walk my stuff in. I have 150 multi/1050TT and I got some good news then some bad. Being for CWU I thought that things would go well once I got the mins but they want more. Not that I doubt them, I still have low times but for CWU it is not 50/750. CWU has not had a direct hire since 2000, a few years ago they did have prefered hire where the people that got hired had about 70multi/1500TT.
I have interview with XJT on the 28th. I spoke with Horizon last week and they suggested that I take the job until I got 200 mult and a little more total. I am looking forward to the XJT interview, I have been PMing with a XJT pilot that is a first class guy.
Well, I am still going to say "Hi" at the tradeshow but I am looking focusing on the XJT interview now.
The best advice that I recieved while instructing was, "don't put all your eggs in one basket." I always thought that I would be a Horizon pilot but I am happy that I applied to XJT and have an interview. Some day I will hopefully get to fly for QX

Respectfully yours.

Horizon was at UND two weeks ago. Hired 7 instructors. Times were between 800-1300 hours. People with as low as 750 got interviews.

But LaMar is a UND grad. so...

Don't have the cash for UND....

Lets say

Lets say a guy got on and was based in DEN, is that the CRJ only or DH4 or DH8? Is denver hard to get? Upgrade running 5-7 years? Whats a typical schedule out of denver, good routes? Overnights?

Thanks in advance, Horizon seems like a great company.

Question for interview purposes:
How many and of what types airplanes does your fleet consist of now and what will it consist of in the future?

Thanks

Does anyone have anymore info on the status of Horizon at the tradeshow this coming weekend? how many peolple are coming? I have to work there with my boss on saturday. I think I will stop by and say Hi.

DEN is CRJ only: Frontier Jet Express. New-hires seem to go about evenly to DEN or PDX. I'm pretty sure if you get one assigned, but want the other, it wouldn't take long to get it. Upgrade is 6 years; probably remain about 6 years through 2006. My impression is the Denver schedules are decent: Seem to all be 4 on 3 off trips.

400: 18 in fleet, 12 on order, 20 options (this doesn't include the 2 Chinese 400's coming mid-2006)

200: 28 in fleet

RJ: 21 in fleet, 0 on order, 17 options

The Horizon presence there will be about recruiting and answering questions. They are taking resumes, conducting mini-interviews, and possibly scheduling sim evals at a later date. Show up and maybe get looked at. Don't know if there will be a line, but if you've got to be there anyway, might as well swing by. If you're really interested, swing by as if you were attending an interview, i.e. nice resume and suit.
