The training program is Great. Ground School is 4 weeks (including the first week of indoc).

I think pay is full first year at 86.3 hours for 5 weeks (??????), I think you also get per-diem. Hotel is paid, but you do get a bunk mate.

It can vary, slightly. I was in ground school five weeks, and the others in my class were off of IOE before I even got in the sim due to scheduling issues. They 'lengthened' my ground school (and my sim partner's) so we wouldn't get into that 60 days or whatever it is that you have to complete your sim check after taking your oral. I started sim a month after my oral, but it was a paid month off!

The Portland hotel they put you in is great. Cookies all the time, and hot chocolate with cool whip if you ask nicely!

Sim training will be in Seattle and/or Denver. I got one week in Seattle, two and a half weeks or so in Denver, then back up to Seattle for one day.

The pay during training is a "reduced training pay" until the end of the bid in which you complete IOE. 16 credit hours per week, so 80hrs/bid of five weeks. (at regular FO pay scales) My line check was scheduled for two days prior to the end of the bid. They moved it to two days after the start of the new bid - i.e. reduced training pay for the next five weeks!

Seniority in classes are assigned by your age. Teh upcoming classes are around 10 per month spread amongst the three airplanes.

There were six in my class. None of which were UND, btw. As for ground school, they just bumped our oral a week, and told us in the meantime to be there and self study. They have a computer based software that is really neat. (CBT) and the mock up cockpit (SPT), systems procedure trainer. You can also go visit the airplane and practice flows in it if you ask maintenance nicely.

There were 12 in the April class, I was the only UND grad...although I had ~2400tt/700me & came from Ameriflight - interviewed in PDX...it seems like the majority of the UND people they hire (particularly low-timers) are through the on-campus interviews.

The training program was overall pretty good. I'll caution you, UND folks have a bit of a reputation for skating through ground school/sim and then choking in IOE. I see you already have CRJ experience so I'd imagine you'll do fine.

If you're in the jet, you'll learn most of the systems via CBT. If you're in the Q2 or Q4, it will be all powerpoint lectures. If you are thirsting for really in-depth systems knowledge you'll be left wanting. They teach you what you need to know to fly the airplane.

They'll put you up in the Country Inn & Suites, it pretty much rocks. You will have a roommate, if it's somebody cool it's not a bad situation (the rooms are big enough & there are seperate areas you can study in). If there's a FA class going through at the same time, you'll see them studying in the hotel all the time too, and they'll probably be game for going downtown on friday nights.

*Shrug* No scare attempt on my part. I said he'd probably be fine. I doubt that the reputation is due to UND guys having a higher washout rate than anyone else, so much as there's a brighter spotlight put on UND guys by those who aren't too happy about the company hiring 600 hour kiddies. The person in the training department who first told me about the reputation and the specific instances was himself a UND grad, as am I.

I've also heard some IOE stories. I heard a guy went a 110 hours before they let him go. I think thats a huge investment on Horizon's part, and shows how bad they want their pilots to make through training. So I wouldn't be afraid of IOE. Just my 2 cents.

What are the mins for non UNDers? And competitive mins? Projected hiring? How many pilots total? Bases?

the competive for QX as a non UNDer is about 1500-2000TT with at least 400-600 Multi
I was hired on in Jan of 04 and had 1700TT with 800 multi 700 of which was previous airline flying 50k+LBS Turboprops. had no previous military experience, Current bases are: PDX, SEA, DEN ( DEN is a RJ base only). They say we are done hiring for the year. But I would guess at least 1-2 more classes by december.
Currently there are about 700 total pilots in the air group. I think since I have been hired there has been about 70-80 that have been hired below me.

The Roc's the hotspot huh? I used to work there back in '97 at that point only the heffers from North Neckota would graze in, but the music was always cranking. As for the Antique I am sad to say it was an unfortunate casuality to the flood of '97. The down under was and always will be the place to be from 2pm to 12am due to the 1.50 pitchers. We used to call it bucs due to the pitchers being a whole 1.00$ when we started going.
