Earlier today, Horizon Air announced it penned a deal with Frontier Airlines to operate regional jet service out of Denver.

Under a 12-year agreement effective January 1, 2004, Horizon will operate nine CRJ-700s as Frontier ExpressJet.

The agreement gives Horizon an opportunity to diversify its revenue base and strengthen its revenue stream. It also allows Horizon to more optimally deploy aircraft currently in its fleet.

It is important to note that this is not a codeshare or marketing alliance, but rather a contract flying arrangement. Under the terms of this arrangement, Frontier will receive all of the passenger revenue and Horizon will be paid for its operating costs plus a mark-up.
