What are the hiring prospects for the next couple months at Horizon Air? What's the junior base?

How's it working there?
Thanks.

With 13 more Q400's coming this year there will be some hiring, but again losing 16 Q200's over the same time frame. CRJ's from Denver will be returning from Denver to expand and supplement Alaska's routes on the West Coast. I haven't heard of much attrition to speak of because of that.

Overall, I'd say it is a premium regional where a lot of pilots are making a career of it. The pay is commensurate with the airplanes we fly and better than other regionals.

Junior base would probably be Seattle at this point with a lot of the new hires from the last classes going into the Q400.

Any further questions about the company you can PM me.

I would expect some attrittion from the DEN pilot group because alot were hired directly into the DEN base or alot commute and DEN is closer to home than PDX. Plus alot of the capts are trying to get out aswell. We should see as we get closer to the Aug. base closure.

They just interviewed 12 at UND and hired 6. They are going to CWU on March 5-6 to interview. They will probably interview 5 pilots and hire 2 or 3 from CWU. I hope I am one of the 2 or 3.

Not quite. The Q400s will be arriving through July--probably August or September, since Bombardier seems to always get behind. However, the Q200s are going away at a rate of one a month starting in March, not inculding 375, which is now gone. That means they won't all be gone until May '08. There should be a slight aircraft "bubble" during the summer and into the fall.

I flew with a management pilot a couple months ago who deals with the training department and said the "slight bubble" was going to close to a hundred pilots. Which was slowly going to dissolve over time with attrition. He also said his opinion was that since we (QX) pushed the rest of our aircraft orders for 07' back to 08' there would be some more jets coming or atleast some growth Q400s. Anyone's guess, but it should be a very interesting next couple of years.

.....I agree it will be interesting. I guess I wasn't sure the exact rate of deliveries vs. sending the -200s away.

Those wonder kids from CWU are not going to be 200 hr. There are 4 that are applying and the total time ranges from 900 - 1400 total time and 50 - 200 multi. So those times are not as low as many people that are getting hiring these days. Still I know that those times are low but it could be much worse. Last year at the direct hire, 4 out of the 5 people interviewing worked at Midstate. That is a silver bullet to the direct hire, if anyone cares.

Good company, but do yourself a favor and cross out the PIC column in your logbook for the next 5-8 years...good luck to ya

Yeah, as long as Ron keeps his freakin' mouth shut. That moron almost killed off the entire direct-hire program single-handedly a couple years back.

:uzi:

Yeah, well that is Ron and life according to Ron is the way that it is going to go for Ron. He is a tool that charges way too much for rental. I remember when on of my friends, a few years back got hired by QX, He was happy as a clam. I was up in the hills hunting birds and came around the corner and saw, my friend with a pistol in hand and shooting his midstate jacket. There was nothing but holes in the jacket when he was done. To this day that still cracks me up.

Well, for those of you lucky enough to spend overnights in Medford, maybe! But I do have faith that MFR is coming down the pike for Q4 drivers, as is YKM and LMT. Now *that* will be "interesting."

YKM will probably finally be stolen away by the 400 just in time for me to do differences training and continue to end up stuck in that hole.
