A little background.
Hollis worked at DL from 1954 - 1990. Harris left that post in 1990 (He served as President from 1987-1990) for a chance to run Continental Airlines in Houston. The move surprised many people since Harris had worked at Delta since 1954, while attending Georgia Tech. Next, Harris headed Continental for about a year, before leaving on 1991 to run Air Eagle Holdings, an aviation consulting firm. Not content, Harris then left the consulting business to work at Air Canada, an airline he ran from 1993 to 1996. He left Air Canada to run CalJet Airline, based in Long Beach, Calif. From 1998 to May 1999.The retirement lasted about 14 months. Harris assumed the job of chairman and chief executive of struggling World Airways in May.
Quote from Hollis in the AJC.............
"I've been down this road before," said Harris, who in 1993 was involved in pulling Continental Airlines out of bankruptcy when he was chairman of Air Canada. "This would not be a good deal for Delta. Whatever internal savings they would generate would come out of Delta's hide. I think it would have a significant negative impact on Atlanta, the surrounding counties and the state."
