A little background.

Hollis worked at DL from 1954 - 1990. Harris left that post in 1990 (He served as President from 1987-1990) for a chance to run Continental Airlines in Houston. The move surprised many people since Harris had worked at Delta since 1954, while attending Georgia Tech. Next, Harris headed Continental for about a year, before leaving on 1991 to run Air Eagle Holdings, an aviation consulting firm. Not content, Harris then left the consulting business to work at Air Canada, an airline he ran from 1993 to 1996. He left Air Canada to run CalJet Airline, based in Long Beach, Calif. From 1998 to May 1999.The retirement lasted about 14 months. Harris assumed the job of chairman and chief executive of struggling World Airways in May.

Quote from Hollis in the AJC.............

"I've been down this road before," said Harris, who in 1993 was involved in pulling Continental Airlines out of bankruptcy when he was chairman of Air Canada. "This would not be a good deal for Delta. Whatever internal savings they would generate would come out of Delta's hide. I think it would have a significant negative impact on Atlanta, the surrounding counties and the state."

Just another good reason for the merger to take place.

This is a case of a company that has never demonstrated they know anything about running a company wanting to purchase someone who once did but forgot how.

I am sure he would testify to the Aviation subcommittee if needed.

Bye Bye--General Lee

I think Doug Parker knows a lot about running an airline. I think he just might get the chance to run the largest in the US and I think no matter what happens, when all is said and done, not much will have happened to Atlanta or the profession that didn't start when Delta Pilots were forced to give up a billion dollars, which then management used to LOWER Fares,;then were forced to drop their pension plan and still their CEO took them into BK.

Lets see, he rapes his employees, then he stiffs the creditors and you still think he's better than the AWA managers who made AWA profitable after 9-11, saved US Airways and 35,000 jobs in the process and then ran 3 quarters worth of profit when oil got over $60.

Maybe Atlanta should think long and hard about letting Delta stay the course. I know, change is scary but come on, is everyone in ATL retarded?

If I was a Delta pilot I might be smiling a little thinking that the idiot who wrecked my airline might himself be out of a job and maybe it might be nice to have some people at the helm with vision and enthusiasm who aren't there to raid the company but would rather grow a great airline.

God I love beer.

Blah Blah Blah......And yes, everyone in ATL is retarded...? What? Our new guys at the helm are just as good or better than Parker. The guys that used to run the place (Leo and Fred Greed) are the ones who ruined it. They are long gone, and the healing has begun (after a sizeable pay cut, but what they hey.....) You sound retarded when you are on beer.

Doug Parker can't integrate what's on his plate. He has been given an $8 billion check by a big bank and now he thinks he can run the biggest combined airline in the world. Hmmmm.....

Not are retarded as you will sound trying to say "Cactus" on the radio!!!

Look, you can insult me all you want, but there's no reason to attack beer. Lets all agree before this thread gets too big that we can find the common ground here; Beer is Good. Mergers Suck and the only thing that can truly see you through a merger is BEER.

Oh, crap I've only got one left.

Yeah, he "raped" his employees, relative to who? Do you think DAL employees work in a vacumn?

AWA 12 year 757 CA. $134
DAL 12 year 757 CA. $155

AWA 12 year 737 CA. $125
DAL 12 year 737 CA. $149

DAL had some bad management, but there is a new team calling the shots and they seem to be doing well, even Parker acknowledges the tremendous turnaround DAL has made in the last year.

At least relative to average local home prices between Atlanta and Phoenix, PHX AWA pilots have to pay 50% more for their house than DL pilots. If I were a Northeast AAA or Southwest AWA guy, I'd want in on the cheap homes in the Atlanta area while not having to commute. Maybe DP is thinking of his employees afterall.

Might I add frottage to the list infront of beer? No bagpiping, though...that's General Lee's arena.

Oh 5hit! I laughed so hard I spilled my last BEER!

A kegerator is a good idea..... hmmm lets see..... I see a new thread developing here....
