I believe off the top of my head its when you roll wings level headed inbound to fix

to my knowledge AIM only specifies "start timing" (those actual words) when discussing outbound

something like "start timing when over or abeam the fix, whichever is last"

Wings Level or passing through the inbound course whichever is first

Passing thru the inbound course as in needle centering up, or needle alive?

There is a reason why the AIM does not specify ~exactly~ when to start the clock--the reason is that it doesn't matter. We are really only talking about 1-10 seconds at most, which will not have much effect on the safety of the hold.

Perhaps simply go back to the tried and true--Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. Click the timer when you get to the Navigate part.

nosehair has got it right. why make yourself look bad, make the timer say one minute and everybody is happy.

BTW post #69! ya baby
