My airline is teaching that the " maximum holding speeds in the New York and Washington D.C. FIRs is 210 KIAS from 6001 feet to 14,000 feet. "

They got that out of the Boeing 777 Flight Crew Training Manual, but I can't find that written in the AIM. All the AIM says is that, " Holding patterns from 6001' to 14,000' may be restricted to a maximum airspeed of 210 KIAS. This nonstandard pattern will be depicted by an icon."

Unfortunately I don't have much reference material with me to research further. I don't think what my airline is teaching is correct. While there are definitely some holding patterns going into Newark and LaGuardia that have the restriction depicted on the charts, making a blanket statement for the whole ARTCC coverage area doesn't seem correct. What are the facts ?

Thanks,

TP
