umm......I've heard of Mesa doing this...........
Ummm.... I would have to disagree. A close friend of mine is a check airman at Mesa and he stated that the only "street captains" that were hired were only for the props, in most recent times the Dash-8. . . I do believe that they recently put an end to this practice but sure the Mesa guys can give more accurate and detailed information on this one.

street captains in the dash (almost all were furloughed 121 guys with some time).

Now for some CORRECT information... (That would be a first)

CA in the DHC-8 at Mesa was going to "street" hires over the past several months. SOME were 121 furloughees, some were not. There was an extremely high washout rate among street captains, mainly among those without 121 experience, but even some with 121 experience didn't make it.

Things have changed. They seem to have caught up on Captain staffing in the Dash, (mainly due to a CRJ displacement). In my class (4/12/04) there were only 2 street CA's and in the current class, there are no street Captains at all. The new class that started at the end of June had no Dash new hires at all. I suspect that upgrade time in the Dash will go up from now on for a while.

And 1st year CA pay rate for the Dash (until Sept this year) is $37.64.

That should be a crime! Unbelievable.

At least somebody has some common sense (raysalmon). When you are hired at a 121 airline you can hold what you can hold. It isn't a mystery how the bidding system works. vbmenu_register("postmenu_374069", true);
