Pool evaporation rate is increasing. We used to use a pool ½ life figure of 6 months, meaning ½ the pilots in the pool will be gone in six months. We keep about 10-12 pilots in our pool. We recently started making calls for a class starting 4-19-04 for 4 DA-20 F/O’s, many of those called had already found other jobs, even though they had interviewed in the past four months. We will have no trouble filling the class, but the pool sure got empty. This is much different that the experience earlier this year and late last year. So something is going on out there, pilots are finding jobs. Looks like it is back to the interview table to rebuild the pool.

usa jet

i know about the 20 min call out for usa jet. do usa jet pilots get any hard days off? curious to know b/c i have been interested in usa jet for a while. i know you guys are 121 but do the pilots have a schedule?

i dont know, it sounds like mostly people bailing for the "almighty" regionals more than anything...

...just have to lower the time requirements a bit ;)

Yes, USA Jet pilots get hard days off. We bid for them about a month ahead of time and know which days we have off usually three weeks to a month ahead of time.

DA-20 pilots presently get 8 days off every 28 days (13 bid periods per year). Starting next month, they will go to 9 days off every 28, then in June go to 10 days off every 28.

DC-9 pilots get 12 days off every 28 (same 13 bid periods).

so the 20 min call out is for when you're on duty and not flying? basically, there is no 20 min call out when your on a day off, right?

One of the guys where I work at just got hired a USA Jet. He couldn't be more excited. It's always nice to hear that somebody has need for more pilots.

Callou

There is no requirement to be available or even reachable when on a day off. A day off is exactly that - a day off.

Usually I turn my pager off or leave it on my desk when I'm on days off. The company sometimes calls looking for pilots when they are short staffed, but there are no reprecussions to saying that you are not available.

If the pool is emptying it's not because things are getting much better. Probably almost everybody at that pool was overqualified for a F-20 FO job, and I assume that they decided to go to the regionals were they were also overqualified and got hired.
Competive minimuns are way to high everywhere.
As always, these are just my thoughts.
