Are you crazy? We have one of the best 1900 contracts in the country. Aren't you still getting underpaid in those 50-70 seaters?

Russian, have you been hitting that cheap rot-gut vodka again? ;)

While our -50 rate leaves lots to be desired, our 6 year old -70 rate is still industry leading (except horizon, I guess, but they're kind of a niche player).

Life has definately taken some interesting turns. After years of saying no to going to the regionals, I started looking into them the last few months. But, I kept struggling over F/O pay for the first year or 2 with some. To compound it, an expecting girlfriend who wants me home more and the little one on the way, it didnt look to good. I started applying to all of the regionals from Xjet to comair to transstate to Mesa thinking of quick upgrade in 2 years and such. Well, Monday recieved a call on a resume from a few months earlier, went into an interview on Tuesday and walked out with a Class date as 1900 Captain. I know its not an RJ, but pay is decent for me right now, and gives me the potential to be home everyday once the baby comes with minimal commute since I live near 2 of the domciles. Its multiengine turbine PIC which I dont yet have and its my first 121 job. So I am happy and look forward to joining the regional ranks, but I dont forget time as a freightdog which got me this job. Oh by the way the company is Gulfstream International.


Piston 135 to Turbine 121 CA? Scary.
 
Russian... do you think Gulfstream would ever actually hire off the street FO's? GIA has some nice bases (TPA, MIA...) but having to pay $30,000 to do what Colgan and Great Lakes FO's do in the same type of plane is crazy.

It is crazy. At this point, they must do away with the FO program to be able to staff the airline. Granted, people are still stupid and still pay the money even though airlines are hiring with comm multi. Either way, those stupid people aren't making up for 20% of the lack of staff at this time. What I am getting at is that they will eventually have to hire off the street.
 
why do people get into this business not wanting to travel? When I was at mesa I flew with a few 1900 guys that were forced over to the jet. All they did was B!tch about how they had to be away from home for 3 days. WTF?? what part of Airline Travel didn't they hear???
I guess I will never understand that mindset. Don't get me wrong I can see wanting be home when a kid is born or sick spouse ect. However day to day why wouldn't you want to go on the road for a few days?

I love being away from home myself. Give me the three day trip, this woman is naggin' me too much!
 
Gulfstream is taking in F/O's now! Kinda.... If you left as a gulfstream F/O to say take another job you used to not be able to come back as an F/O. But now you can be rehired in the right seat. I think from what I hear they will hire off the street here soon.

First in response this comment, I didnt get into this industry not wanting to travel and not expecting it either. I know full well what I was getting involved with when I first soloed over 13 years ago. I've flown in the West Pacific Ocean to the Panama Canal and all in between in the last 5 years. However, a newborn on the way and a new family makes me want to be at home more often. 3-5 days on the road is nothing compared to 13 months overseas or 5-6 weeks deployed with 1-2 week off in between. If you fault me for wanting to spend time with my family and being a father, then you should check your own priorities. Would you rather be that old pilot at the FBO reminising on your old days because you have no one to go home to, kids dont talk to you and in the end all you have is those memories because you kept putting you career ahead of your family? Or would you like to be that old pilot that found comprimise where you still did well flying professionally, had a great relationship with you kids and go home to loving spouse thats been with you for decades? I love flying, everyday its never the same boring day at the office for me. But, I love my family also and its great to me to be able combined the 2 loves of my life without sacrificing either. Thats QOL at its best. Thanks for the well wishes from everyone, as far as the negative, my ideal of QOL maynot be yours, I hope you find it.

You'll do fine. You have the high level of morals and ethics it takes to succeed as a bar lowering Small Lift Provider. As a bonus, you''ll have access to more snatch than an Alaskan in Barrow. When you make the BIG BOYS, you'll have the prerequisites: Divorced, child support, live-in flight attendant who follows you on each trip so you won't cheat, cheap work shoes, a nice comb-over and sporty 11 year old car.
