Hey: I have a class date of 20 June (G200) and have a couple of questions that you'all may be able to help me with.
1). If the strike happens while I am in training - do I stay in training (no scab here)?
2). What are your (our) expectations for new pay scales and work rules (what should I expect)?
3). Is there a place (website or call in, etc.) where I can get the latest so I can stay informed?
4). Am I crazy to come to NJA?
Thanks, Nick

On the calling issue, you'll be given an 866 number for the local that will have all the latest info.

Posted about four post's under your original. Good Luck.

Nick -

1) No one knows right now because everything is in the hands of the three members of the NMB. Both the company and the union have been summoned to NMB headquarters in DC on the 20th of May. The two most likely outcomes of that meeting are a recess from negotiations or the offer of binding arbitration. If arbitration is offered, that's the path that will lead to us being able to strike after a 30 day cooling off period. I would plan on that being a real possibility.

2) If we are authorized a work action, all pilots at NetJets on the seniority list are expected to stop working. That includes pilots in training.

3) We don't know what the eventual contract will be. I would look at our failed TA and expect more than that. How much more remains to be seen. The company's latest proposal had guys on the 7&7 making 86K at year 5 Captain's pay. It also had no overtime, required us to pay for our health care out of that pay, had no 401K and lowered the pay rate for extended days. It was extremely regressive over what was offered in the failed TA. It shocked all of us that the offer was so bad. It also angered even the most loyal "company men" we have on property. It was an incredibly insulting offer.

Got a old buddy of mine that's on the CRJ at Indy. He was my DO when I flew EC-130s at Keesler. His name is Jim Whiting. If you bump into him, tell him Griz said hey.

Wow...what an intelligent move and such great timing. Hope you are fit enough to walk the line. As for your 4th question, do you really have to ask that ? It's a stupid question.

TJC,

No need to be a dic. He just had a few quesitons. Now go back and have another Santulli Pop. I know I will.

Current job isn't working out well with the family, sent a resume to NJ a few weeks ago and just got an application, if you are offered a fair contract how long until the deal is done and it's safe to send in the application?

If your current job is not working with the family, how is NJA going to help?

As far as how long from a TA being brought to a vote and being done. My guess is about 2-3 months. I think the last POSTA was being shoved down our throats for 2 months.

No idea when we will see something that has a chance of passing.

So I am no help. Sorry.

The NJ's schedule is better, half as many days on the road and twice as many at home.

As a new-hire, you're almost for sure going to get the 17-day schedule. Is that really only half as many days on the road as your current job? And those first and last days of tour can run 10, 12 hours or more, so don't think that those beginning and ending days are always just traveling to/from home.

Ride:

May schedule: 1 on (carryover from April, 6 total) - 3 off - 5 on - 4 off - 4 on - 5 off - 4 on - 2 off - 3 on (carries over into June). 1 weekend off.

June: 3 on (total 6 on) - 5 off - 5 on - 3 off - 5 on - 6 off - 3 on (no carryover to July) 2 weekends off.

Most start days seem to be a waste for the company - airline somewhere and sit, then go to the hotel. Last days are a mixed bag - some are 13 hrs 59 min and others are an airline home.

My opinion will differ from the majority of posters on the board, but if the money isn't a deterrent (it sucks) and the schedule works for you (worked for me, that's why I'm here), you'd be better off getting in now. Seniority rules and you never know what the new contract will look like regarding new hires after ratification.

Thanks for the shcedule info Grump, got a question though, are you saying that if I interviewed and was hired this month before the new contract is active, that I would not get a pay raise or other benifits that the new contract might have?

Now I'm all confused, I thought that all pilots would be under the new contract and everything from the old contract would be void when the new contract is active.

All help is immensely appreciated.

Ridethewind,

To answer your question, There is no new contract. When a TA is voted down EVERYONE, included new hires stays with the current contract.. If ya want to come here, then do it. If 17 days is less than your current job then i would say its better. If and when this thing is done it will be better or we will never get a chance to vote on it. Good Luck...

Ridethewind

The rejected TA had some grandfathered bennies for the current pilots that would not be available to new hires. That's one reason it was rejected.

If you look at most contracts, there are provisions and protections provided to pilots on the seniority list as of the date of ratification (think non-furlough clauses, though they didn't end up being worth much). There also may be current practices grandfathered in, that newhires after ratification won't get. I don't think that will happen with this contract, but you never know.
