Doing the higher power school at the end of June, What parts do they hit hard on during the oral for the 73?

thanks

Umm.....this is an oral for a 737 type rating....They're gonna hit you hard on everything. Take it from someone whodunit at Higher Power.

They will hit most everything but the ground school instructor(s) will have you very well prepared provided you do your part at night when you leave the class. Good Luck!

The overhead panel on the 737 is 95% of the oral. If you know that, you know all the jet's major systems. There used to be a gouge sheet at Higher Power that highlights all of what happens and what's controlled by each switch up there... and that was Higher Powers oral. The materials HP sends you before class are very good. I studied the stuff almost a month before classes and had no problems once I got to class. It was still no cake walk, but I am a slow learner! HP will send you a simplified electrical sytem diagram. Memorize it well enough you can draw it. HP wants you to pass! They have a 95% pass rate and they prepare you very well to pass all the tests... if you do your part.

This was 3 years ago....I was sat down in the cockpit trainer and asked about pretty much every other switch. The examiner was very fair...and I felt prepared by HP. They are a first class organization. You will be ready if you study before...a bit. Good luck.

"Good intel....."
Well, what do you expect? It's a boeing Jet....they quiz you on EVERYTHING. Know the overhead panel, and study a lot before you show up. You'll be alright. It's a top-notch company, and the connections to SWA are there.

Agree w/ everyone on this.

I just had my oral on Sunday. There is some variability between the evaluators (as is to be expected)...I would say that my oral was on the difficult end of the spectrum. 45 min on preflight slides alone and 2:15 actual oral. I knew 99% of everything I was asked and it still took that long.

The groundschool gets you where you need to be as long as you have a good foundation prior to class. (boxed items, limits and basic a/c familiarity).

I will say that I probably know the 73 systems better than I have known most jets I flew in the Navy.

On a side note, the HPA team are good people and are very easy to work with. Although, many would argue that you can get a type for less (and you can), their people and their connections are well worth the price premium IMHO.

Wow...
I am assuming that this was you first type rating ride and I hear most examiners make the first one a little difficult but 3 hrs is a little overboard. I guess I believe in the fact that if an examiner can't tell if you know the systems in under 30 mins, maybe he should not be an examiner.

It wouldn't have mattered. I knew everything asked. It was simply every switch and light on the overhead panel....other folks had the same experience w/ this examiner.
My examiner was a good dude, just very thorough.

There were plenty of other guys who were getting their first type rating too...it was simply this examiner.

Again, your results may vary. Either way, I was well prepared by the HPA team and ready to go.

HPA prepared me for the oral very well. I agree with the 95% of the overhead panel. Mine was about 1.5 hours including the slides.

Higher Power isn't a quickie type rating course. I walked out of there and had to jumpseat home on a 737 with Continental. As I sat down in my seat I looked around and said to myself "I could easily fly this thing back as the Captain and be comfortable". HP does a GREAT job prepairing you for a real live 737 type, don't let the short time period fool you. You WILL know the 737 when you are done.

OK, try this as a new approach to an oral. If you fvck up the limitations, or emergency procedures, you are dead. Everything else is negotiable.
