High Performance Endorsement

I currently own a 172 but I REALLY wanted a Cherokee 6 (260 OR 300, doesn't really matter). Because it is a "high performance" airplane, even though it's fixed gear, fixed prop, I would need a high performance check off. Not to mention, the insurance company wants 15 hours of time with instructor before covering me. Anyone know of a school in the DC area that has a Cherokee 6 for training?
 
That's why the endorsements are pretty much a moot point anyway. The insurance company is gonna want more dual in the airplane than what the endorsement would take in the first place, so it doesn't really matter.
 
True. But it's kinda like the chicken and egg argument. I want a Cherokee 6 and I WANTED to buy this plane and do all my training in it so when I finally got my PPL, it would be in the plane that I would be flying for a long time. The insurance company said "Sure! No problem! Premiums will be $10,000 a year (not a joke, thats what they said)"

So, how do I get the hours I need in the plane I really want without spending $10,000 for the first years premiums?

btw, they said that after I received my PPL and I received all my training in this plane, then my premiums would drop to around $2,000 a year. I can handle that but TEN THOUSAND?!?!?
 
To answer earlier question about date of the split between high performance and complex, it was August 4 of 1997.
