Can an ATP give me a high altitude endorsment in a King Air 350 that he's typed in? I think so because he can give me instruction in the airplane. Just not sure if certain types of instruction are excluded since he's no longer a CFI. Guess it depends on the definition of "authorized instructor". Thanks.

No CFI, no dual. Unless you are both employed with a 135 or 121 operation, and the person is authorized as a check airman or instructor, a non-CFI ATP cannot give loggable instruction.

Do a seach on this board, this question is asked every few weeks.

Is that response based on 61.167 b 1 "air transportation service"?

Yes, and by FAA legal intepretation, that means that "you are both employed with a 135 or 121 operation, and the person is authorized as a check airman or instructor."

Sorry, but unless he's a CURRENT CFI he can't give you a high altitude endorsement and he also can't give you any loggable dual.

I don't think anyone actually gets the endorsement, I went from pistons to jets and never got it, just type ratings and ATP certificate.

That's definately not correct, but there are several exemptions to the requirement. My guess is that you either flew as PIC prior to 1991 and were "grandfathered" or you received a 135 PIC check (one of the listed exemptions). We had a case 4 or 5 years ago where we were typing a new guy in a KA-350 and we had to have FlightSafety "wave it's wand" over his head if you know what I mean. But you're right, most guys probably pick it up during their formal 135 training.

I think there's another spot in the FAR's that states that an ATP may give instruction in an airplane that he's type rated in. I've been pulling my hair out trying to find it. Can anyone tell me where it is?

I think it's in your mind only. ATPs can give instruction for Air Carrier stuff only unless they have a valid CFI.

Also, in your profile you list "B350." A King Air 350 is a B300.

Come to think of it,I never got the endorsement either. Does an FAA type ride in an a/c that is certified to over 25,000 cover this?

With that reasoning, an ATP without a CFI and with or without a specific airplane type rating can give instruction in any multiengine airplane, since they are 'typed' in multiengine a/c.

As I and others have posted, no CFI, no dual outside authorized 121 & 135 ops.

You are unfortunately out of luck and you are merely a passenger a long for the ride in the right seat. He can't give you the endorsement nor can he give you dual as the others have previously stated, the regs are very clear with regards to this issue.

Does the chamber ride offered at various AF bases around the country count as a HAE?
It will count towards the ground training portion, you still need to do the flight training portion.

Who is eligible to offer the flight training, and is there anything specific that the regs list which has to be covered during the flight portion? Thanks, no books here.

Why didn't you receive your high altitude endorsement with the Citation type rating?
We are not talking about mine, someone who wants to get it.
(I am not the original poster). and regs have surely changed since I took it; not that I was very aware of them back then anyway.
