Hi Ils 21 Krow

Sorry to get back on subject , but how is the ILS 21 approach into KROW a "widowmaker" ? No mountains around and its fairly flat. I just flew it on flightsim and its like any other approach - simple. Nearest "significant" elevation was maybe 100nm away.

As I understand it, it picked up that name because the approach was often included on the T38 checkride. Go back to your flight sim, run your airspeed up to around 320kts, and then fly the approach at that speed, slowing to around 210 kts after intercepting the localizer. If you still think it's easy, then obviously, the Air Force missed a hell of a pilot...

Well, since you asked. The folks at the FBO used to call it the Widowmaker. They had t-shirts and mugs for sale for the military guys that did it during UPT.

Thanks for the explanation V4F. I still think its pretty straight forward, but oh well. And yes, i know, the airforce did miss a great pilot in me, they just don't know it yet

You forgot to mention that if he's going to play widowmaker on the sim, not to do it in a glass cockpit with an autopilot. Fly by hand young man.
