SD,

"Ridculous" should be spelled ridiculous and "as good as..." should be "as well as..."

:D

JUST KIDDING! My theory is that when someone can't contribute anything they just resort to proofreading so they can post something.

While I avoid making a critique of spelling and grammar, I hope everyone is aware of the real value of such an awareness of one's abilities.

Speaking and writing correctly in English is a foundational skill for life in general and aviation in particular. If you see yourself as a professional, then you should be motivated to bring these communication skills up to par with your abilities as a pilot.

It's just a really good idea.

mayb dats why I can't bees gettin me no flyin job. I was alwaays a wonderin why peoples don't be lettin me fly dem aeroplanes.

Funny thing.

Some folks just can't take a friendly observation, or a kernel of advice.

I know more than one person rated it, because the rating has changed since the thread started.

A person rating a thread low because they disagreed with one side, out of all the sides of the issue, just doesn't make sense. It's like a person saying they didn't like watching a presidential debate on TV because they disagreed with one of the candidates.

The point is we either should have a seperate forum or delete these threads that don't belong here. And I don't buy the "then don't read it" crap. If that was the case we would not have a Training forum, an FAR forum, a Buying and Selling forum, etc., and then a whole group of forums dedicated to interviews.

Besides, as someone once said, that's like telling someone "if you don't like polluted air, don't breathe it."

I never said that they "liked it" specifically, only that it was "popular".
pop·u·lar adj.

P.S. Yes, you did. You said, "On the other hand, if you look at the number of "views" the thread gets, indicating how much people like to check in on what's going on in a given thread..." (emphasis added).

Ah. I see.

Heroin is popular. Do junkies "like it"? They need it, and they appreciate it for what it does to relieve their withdrawl symptoms.

I'm sorry you don't buy the idea of "don't read it". I am able to easily decide which threads are ones I will read, and which ones I will not. The various categories are only helpful to me, but I have the responsibility to determine what I will read. I may not "like" something on the board, but I may look in on a thread if it interests me.

It's like a person saying they didn't like watching a presidential debate on TV because they disagreed with one of the candidates.

People will often say they didn't like a debate, if their candidate didn't exploit opportunies, or worse yet, gets his head handed to him by his opponent.

Besides, as someone once said, that's like telling someone "if you don't like polluted air, don't breathe it."

That's a good example of the stuff I used to say as I patted myself on the back for being so much smarter than those evil conservatives. I'm glad I was able to recover completely.

At 1790 views, someone was, at the very least, interested in looking at it, and for whatever personal reasons they had for doing so.

I was just making fun, I wasn't ragging on ya. I did take your advice and I do agree that we need to all use the best english that we can and be as professional as possible. Most of my mistakes are not due to not knowing the correct way to spell, it is usually typing errors, I never took typing so I have to tyoe by the seat of my pants. Oh well, don't be so up tight, I was just picking on ya. You did make a good point.

Sheesh Timebuilder, lighten up on the grammar and spelling.

I'm sure everyone on here understands that professional correspondence and communication should be correct on both counts. I'm also sure that each of us does his or her best when submitting resumes, NASA forms, etc., but this is just a bulletin board for a bunch of like-minded folks who enjoy discussing and/or b*tching about aviation and anything even tangentialy related to it.

I've had articles published in several aviation magazines, and when the manuscript goes to the publisher it is a close to perfect as it can be, but when I'm on here I don't care quite as much if the proverbial "I"s are not dotted and "T"s not crossed. It's just a place to talk about airplanes (and obviously lots of other things).

You know, I agree. However, there are a number of posts I've seen here that make me wonder. Sure, there was one guy with a learning disability, and considering my brother, who I have mentioned before, I understand that.

I'm not trying to rag on anybody, I'm just encouraging some of the posters to not slump into the bad habits of internet chat. You never know when a potential employer is reading your post right here on the board.

I guess that means I won't be getting a pilot job from the Democrats anytime soon.

Timebuilder,

I know what you mean about those occasional posts that are so out of whack you just have to say "what the...?".

dmspilot00, the question is, why do you care? Obviously you are spending a lot of time and effort contributing to a non-aviation related post here, to attempt to get everyone else to stop posting non-aviation related posts.

Lighten up

The thread was started by someone else, seconded by several people, and was already an active discussion with 15 posts before I entered a short discussion with Timebuilder about the popularity of a now-deleted thread.

This thread is not off topic, it has to do with the forum itself!

Show me where on this thread I attempted "to get everyone else to stop posting non-aviation related posts." I didn't. Other people did. You are confused.

Yea - second the above comment. What's the deal?! You put on the board police hat, but you get your feathers ruffled when some one pushes back?! What the heck does it matter to you if there are off-topic posts on *this* board? You send me a PM and ask why I'm singling you out?!? You're the one taking on the issue it seems with 6 posts on the issue in this thread alone.

BTW, what happened to your poll? you delete it? gonna rate this one low, just to show it's not a popular topic! ;)

Personally, posts about FAR's, unions, stall practice methods, crash pads and who's hiring/not hiring do almost nothing for me. But I'm not complaining. I just skip those topics!! Now, if someone miss identified or lured me into a thread with a misleading subject, I'd get a little irritated. but it rarely, if ever, happens.

Happy flying!!

There is a lot of BS that is posted on here lately, about topics that have to relivence to aviation (Jason vs Freddy Kruger, etc).

What? 6? I made a grand total of THREE (3) posts, and they were all directed at Timebuilder, in a debate that is now over as far as I'm concerned. Then you and FlyChicaga made posts about me which I had to respond to.

I didn't know that my three-post-short debate with Timebuilder about the meaning of the word "popular" meant that I was acting like the board police.

Yes, I deleted the poll, because no one appreciated it and I no longer see the point. No I didn't delete it because I didn't like the results, I believe around 64% said they didn't mind the off-topic posts.

I "objected" to a total of TWO (2) threads on this site, both a MONTH ago, so I'd hardly consider that as acting like board police either. I haven't even mentioned it until someone else started this thread.

I didn't put on any type of board police hat as you say, so of course I'm going to "get my feathers ruffled" when someone pushes back because I did not do any pushing in the first place.

It's nice to know that every mistake I make here will not only be not forgotten but exagerrated and blown out of proportion. Give it a rest! (Don't say the same thing to me, as I had said all I had to say and was ready to give this topic "a rest" until people started attacking me).

If you don't like it, don't read it!

BBQ, Pizza & Beer, Grammar, Thread Ratings, (Somewhere in there I was glad to notice Fly Chicaga is back to COOL avatars), And even a discussion about whether this thread is offf topic.

Just a few of the things that have NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with AVIATION that have been discussed on this thread.

I think we need a new forum.

To all of you who don't want to see anything other than subjects akin to "how to fly the perfect final approach".........There are numerous other forums that are just begging for participation. Go there and post away.

As I stated earlier, in the deleted threat I guess, I must assume that this forum is a commercial venture and that it needs viewers/participants/readers/visitors in order to succeed. If you succeed in removing all the threads that are slightly off topic, you will have another one of those forums that begs for participation. Yet another site with nothing new, that ultimately falls off your radar screen because it's BORING. Then the webmaster will either start asking for payment or just cut off access to anyone who is not a paying member.

As long as the moderators moderate in such a way as to remove material that is against the rules, like vulgarity, but leave thought alone, I'll keep coming back.

regards,
enigma

BTW, PPrune is way to "international" for me. I don't really care about the gripes about, or intricacies of, aviation in Switzerland, etc.

I think it's funny that the people that are protesting certain topics of conversation on this board, have yet come up with anything else better to discuss but complaining about other people's posts.

If there is a division of the general boad, then everyone will go to that end of the board to post and then three guys will be discussing the merits of control cable vs push tubes as control surface actuators for FAR 23 airplanes on this end of the board....so be it.

I just don't understand how a "Powerball post" relates to anything aviation (What this General forum is for..aviation)......

Maybe I missed something?? I'll go back and re-rate and re-read the powerball post and see if it has anything to do with what this website is based on.

I posted that, I wanted to know if anyone knew the best airport to land at, and where a good place to get the tickets was.

Either an airport where we can buy them onsite, or one that offers a crew car to go get them nearby.

That is why it is aviation related. Besides, we're flying to another state to go get them, how many people do that? :D

Gizbug, your auto signature invites me to look at a website: www.sammyhagar.net.

You are off topic. Please discontinue your posts here, they are distracting me from exciting things like limitations on maximum outside air temperature.

Because some readers of these threads can't always tell when I am being sarcastic, this has been sarcasm. The object of my post is to tell gizbug that even while he is saying that he only wants to see aviation related posts here his VERY OWN AUTOSIGNATURE entreats us all to see a music website. Does anyone ELSE see the irony?
